Good afternoon! I just acquired this nice 1971 Super Lead to match my other Super Lead! I was hoping you all could take a look and tell me if what you think has been done to it! There is a knob on the back in an old speaker jack, but it doesn't seem to do anything! Originally I wanted to get a Vintage Modern for the wife, and we ordered one - but UPS dropped it inside the truck, so it didn't arrive that in good shape! Then, low and behold this 1971 came up and it was an instant buy! Please let me know your thoughts and how original you think it may be! It's certainly different than my other 1971!!!

This is that volume knob on the back.......

Looks like a "Rosemary" signature - and Teresa has worked on both of my 1971s!

    And TWINS!!!

    Nice!
    His & Hers SLPs.
Sorry I'm clueless on the tech questions, but wondering what the first duet will be.

The caps on the diode bridge pack don’t look stock some antra filtering . The double pot looks like it is post phase splitter . So what is the plans for it and how does it sound

The PPIMV is in presence spot and presence on back.
Looks very good (yes new snubbers) and PPIMV but very good buy.
You can see that someone has tried to make both channels similar with added cap on vol 2 pot and bypass cap across the mixer, probably lets you use an ABY pedal to use channel 2 for crunch and channel 1 for lead at different volume settings.
Bit of a monster for your wife but the PPIMV should help.

If I can get her to remember an A chord.....then anything! But she's new and hopefully will get there, otherwise, I guess I'll have two amps to myself and I'll take her American Strat!

Thanks for the info! This one is noticeably - very noticeably different than the other 1971. It's considerably louder as well. I'm thrilled I found it - if she isn't fond of it, then we'll likely still end up with a Vintage Modern for her.

The wife wants an amp - she doesn't necessarily want "this" amp - but she wants one. I want her to get one that if she stops playing, then I'll enjoy....and that's how we ended up with this second 1971. She likes it a lot so far, and its much much louder than the other 1971 - which is a bit heavier with the modding.

This amp sounds incredible though. A lot less gain than I expected, I haven't jumped the channels, but it rocks the room on 2. I put an SD-1 in front of it to see what it would do and it really shined.

I can't quite figure out the PPIMV yet - because the knob on the back - and the front - don't seem to do much for volume. they both tend to act like a presence knob.

What happens when you turn the knob on the front right down?

I tried to take a YouTube video here to show you what the settings do. At first I mess with the presence knob, then the bass, then the main volume 1 - and the knob on the back!

Sounds great! but I admit I wanted to hear you rip out some heavy power chords on that thing! Congratulations, great find!

And if the wife doesn’t want it, I’ll buy it. ;):dude:

    That is sweet! Congrats!

I would love to find a '71 100 watter to go with my '71 B cab.

The noodling sounded like a SB/SL with preamp turned down. With the PPIMV (knob turned right down) does the amp go very quiet?
If you turn that knob, lets say to 2, and the volume 1 (channel you are plugged into) up to 8 does it start to break up and give you the preamp distortion?

If I turn the "Volume 1" pot to 8 - there's a good chance my roof will blow off the house. From level 1 to level 3 is an incredible amount of loud sound....I couldn't imagine 8.

yes, that is normal and that is where the gain is to be found, but what happens when you dial the PPIMV knob down?

In this case - that would be Presence right? If so - it doesn't appear to do anything for the volume. I can upload a new video here shortly!

Actually you need a jumper and turn both volumes to 8.
