depends on what you are looking for...the cleans on these early channel switchers is hard to match..but yes the later ones... 87 onward has smoother distortion.

I couldn't get any cleans or real distortion. Both channels sounded similiar. I guess the channel bleed was just brutal. No good gain either...was hard to punt it to say the least. I will always wonder if it could have been fixed and be a monster head...I just ran out of patience. Anyone else out here have an 82 2205?

The 89 is a total animal! I love this amp and cannot stop playing it. Blows the 82 out of the water. I haven't been using pedals as there is no need. Even the normal channel sounds great! fullsizeoutput_8bb.jpeg fullsizeoutput_8ae.jpeg fullsizeoutput_8b9.jpeg fullsizeoutput_8ac.jpeg fullsizeoutput_8b6.jpeg fullsizeoutput_8aa.jpeg fullsizeoutput_8b1.jpeg Pumped

I bought a 82 anv 2204 and a 2205, sold the 2205 within months because of lack of balls. Still have 2204 which is for sale in classifieds BTW. Don’t want to sell but have to :(

It really sucks when you have to sell gear to make ends meet, this I know all to well :(

I had an 82 2205 and it was the worst amp of any Marshall Ive ever owned, no balls and anemic as hell.

Thanks for the heads up, lol. I'm on the South Shore, so the Braintree GC is the one I drive by all the time.
Good that you have a better one now.
