I’ve been eyeing this amp for a while and finally pulled the trigger. I was between a Bogner Shiva, Orange Rockerverb and a 2204, but decided on this. Haven’t had a chance to play it yet but it looks amazing. To my eye, it looks pretty stock. Maybe someone could chime in, if not. I’m mainly looking to use this for cleans (ducking ;)) and a pedal platform, but will most likely get a master volume installed through tone of the speaker outs. From most accounts, this head is loud and could probably benefit from a MV. I have one night shift to get through then I’m going home to wake some neighbors!!!

I just noticed the four hole input. I have a '79 and a '77 but both have only two inputs. Whats the difference between the two ? Did they come from the factory that way ?
One is master volume, one is not
other then that I cannot elaborate on! But both excellent amps!
Cheers Mitch

Beautiful amp! It looks completely stock to me but better to hear from some of the more knowledgeable folks here. I had a 1980 2204 that sounded fantastic. Though a reversible MV won't hurt the amp, if you're going for a pedal platform, you might find the amp adequate as is. Getting it to the verge of breakup and pushing it with a good overdrive and boost yields great results with these circuits. Yes you won't be slamming the PI and output stage so it's a bit different, but still very much Marshall flavor. Either way you go you won't be disappointed.

Thanks guys! Gotta chance to play this morning.. hands down the best clean of any Marshall I’ve ever played. Maybe the best clean I’ve ever played, including the Shiva and a Twin I’ve owned. Just fat, complex cleans. This is going to be a fantastic pedal platform.

My TS style pedal sounds great, but I need a great distortion pedal for this amp. @67Mopar mentioned the Zen.. any others?

I ended up going to the local Guitar Center and seeing new MXR Super Badass pedals on sale for $79.99. Picked one up and it sounds really good! I might buy a Friedman DS pedal used locally, but I thought I’d try the Badass first. It lives up to its name... badass!

Hate myself for saying it but I would've gone for the Shiva. Sorry...... Then again if the Marshall does just what you want fine. With the Bogner you just get more options is all.
