this is close to my heart , as I always get very close to our dogs and it is heart breaking to lose them, when I lost our first dog , I pined for 3 years , but now I get another one the next day and start my next dog in our family relationship , and it really helps with your sadness - you won't forget Sadie and you'll hold on to your shared memories for ever

Same here man, very sad,not called mans best friend for nothing-clever,loyal,cute,funny as hell, and all unique! I had a springer spaniel as a kid,one when me and my wife first met and another now.My last one died aged 12 of a stroke,a bleed inside somewhere, and some growths inside that weren't cancerous but were making his breathing a bit laboured,i was glad to be with him right to the end,me and the wife. Here comes the sun by the beatles was on the radio in the background and of course every time that tunes on there he is.I never wanted another[it was my wife and daughter who wore me down]that, and a wise old woman who told me"you're not replacing the dog, you're replacing the love",it made perfect sense and we got another, best decision we ever made,it took me 5 years to get over my childhood dog[I was 22 when he died],and I always used to think how can people just get another the next day, like they were cold hearted or something, but I know different now,and when this one goes,i'll get another, then another. Its true what someone said about your old dog not wanting you to be upset, just think of it as giving another dog a really great life! Its impossible to be sad around a puppy,i think of my old dogs everyday but live in the present with my now 3 year old spaniel.Good luck and once again condolences.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Yes it is a total shock when they are healthy and active one minute and the next minute you are having to make a decision you hoped you would never have to make.

You are right in that it does help to know that she lived a very good life when so many other animals aren't so lucky.

Sorry to hear about your dog and thanks. Yes, I know that I won't be replacing her. Nothing can. Right now its the thought of setting myself up for the inevitable and going down this road again. I realize the wounds are still fresh and once some time passes it will most likely be different.

It hurts hearing about your pup. I'm sorry to hear too. Dogs are like no other pet. They could be your companion 20 or 50 or 100 yrs and it still hurts the day it comes knowing your best mate isn't with you anymore. My doggie prayers go out to Sadie.

    Thanks alot. I appreciate it.

I've been wanting to watch that, but I'm a bit of a softie when it comes to animals and dogs in particular. I may have to delay it a little longer now.

Thanks alot. Yes, her not being here is going to leave a huge void. My girlfriend is going to really feel that void for a while as Sadie was basically her shadow for the past 12 years following her all over the house.

Very sorry for your loss. I could not imagine losing my pup. Some days, she is the only one who keeps me from losing it. You have my sincerest condolences.

Yes, I felt the same way too. This one is a bit different, and it is heartwarming. Be sure to watch it when you are ready.

Yes, I've seen Hachiko. My younger daughter and my niece bawled their hearts out on this one. :(
