Sounds like the deal is done. Makes sense because both are out of Nashville. Its a good move by Gibson to finally jump out of the pigeon hole that they've been in for years. The LP and SG's are classics but the younger generation wants a more modern style. Good for them, like it or not any American company willing to expand and keep the brand going is always a plus to me.
@Drinkingdeath01 If true, then it's an interesting move. I hope it's not a cheap money chasing venture to see how many fans will flock to Gibson's Dave Mustaine signature guitar. Though I like Dave, I thought they would have gone with a younger person given how you made the argument for the younger generation wanting a more modern style; still, he's not a bad choice. A kind of parallel move would be for Dave to work with Mesa-Boogie. I've heard of nothing at all in this regard, but it would make some sense though I don't know if Dave really likes Mesa stuff. Hope the deal yields some good stuff.
MOM, I couldn't agree more with your thoughts. I do believe that Mustaine is the melodic, tech guy out of the big four. He brought the sound and techniques that the younger generation is playing now. With Gibson and Mustaine, legends should endorse legends.
Given the way Dave is, Gibson must have really made him an impressive guitar (And an impressive total package) to get him to sign on with them. Dave Mustaine is by far more relevant to me as an example of a great guitarist than the vast majority of players that came along after him. There are many Megadeth songs that made it all the way up to "earworm" status with me. Those songs you can't get out of your head. And better yet, songs I don't WANT to get out of my head!
Hate to see him leave Dean since they have seriously upped their game the last few years. Since Elliot passed and his son took over Dean their guitars have improved 10 fold. I guess money talks tho. Personally I’d stay with the smaller metal focused guitar brand to help them out but whatever. Money wins these days sadly.
Fair enough, maybe he has more fans than I thought. I haven’t thought about or really listened to anything he released since the early 90s. And I’m kind of his target audience
the guitars, by Gibson and Kramer. I Loved how the V Exp came out... I want one! or two... I want a white one plz! and a Kramer Vanguard!
funny, back way back, a buddy of mine had a Hamer V made, w/ an Explorer neck. It also had a Fender style whammy bar (before locking were made)... looked a lot like that, but, his has a nice candy blue coated maple top...
Gibson's new owners are putting out tons of signature models. It's great. As for Dave being relevant...let's see you or your band sell millions of albums and still sell out arenas and stadiums at 60 years old.
