Yeah, in the end, it doesn't really matter how you get to where you want to be. I think some just prefer to have their "diode clipping" external, for more control of that end result.

I'm looking at getting a new low-watt Marshall, but I need to know what's up with the effects loop level. Are all of them like this? I'm sick and tired of having to "fix" amplifiers that should have been thoroughly tested, prior to release. :pissed:

SV head is fine here too, no issues with the loop.

That’s been discussed to death in this and other forums.

I don't give a fuck. Tell me what the deal is on this amp. Is it a turd, or what?

I also look forward in hearing how it holds up in a band situation. This amp is on my radar for sure. I just have to be confident that it will cut through for practice and live bar gigs.

    Its plenty loud enough.
    Best amp I've had.
    And I've owned every Marshall.

If you're asking about the SC20, yes there's a volume drop when you engage the loop. The volume drop becomes less present as you increase the master volume of the amp, barely noticeable at higher volume settings (near max). "Is it a turd"? No, it sounds pretty good for a 20w amp. SV20 owners have reported that the loop volume drop does not exist on the SV20. I can't confirm that, as I haven't tried the SV20.

Well, so much for getting an SC20. Maybe Ceriatone will build a clone that operates properly.

Why would the SC20 have a bum loop, but the SV20 does not?

Probably has to do with signal level. The SV is non master volume, so signal level is pretty constant...I bet there is no drop when the master is on full...and the loop is not foot switchable, so the question it's if the loop works or not..volume drop issue?.. just turn up to compensate...

I use 2 mogami patch cables if that matters and a delay in my SV combo and Soul food up front. I still plugged in up front no problems less pedals the better:)

Sorry. I'm just spun-up after dealing with loop leveling and hum issues for the last three days. The SC20 sounds like the one for me, though I'd like to try the SV20 as well.

I never use a loop. My pedals go through the front the old school way.
Never use reverb either. I make my own in a room.

as said...op amps for effects loop..

There are no diodes used in the signal path...only for power schemes, for AC rectification, bias circuits and keep current flowing in one direction...

You'd lose that bet Gunner. I play the old tried and true way. Guitar into amp, nothing between. So much for knowing EVERYTHING huh...

By the way, was able to use it at band practice last night and it is KILLER. I'm pleased to say it is worth of carrying an "800" on the front panel.
