Hey all, I’m new to having a Marshall. The controls are a bit different than I’m used to. What is the best way of going from nice and clean to heavy? The best heavy sound is when the input gain is up and the lead channel is activated, but when it’s in clean mode- the input gain being high makes it pretty dirty still.

It is a compromise. Setting gain high for lead channel for raunch means it is set high for clean channel. You xan turn guitar volume down some that will help. Keeping gain at like 6 should remain quite clean on channel 1. That may not be quite enough dirt on lead channel so you need to use a pedal of some sort. An Overdrive works very well.
It is hard to get pristine clean to really heavy with a shared gain control. One of the drawbacks. This is not unique to Marshall at all, rather, to the Jubilee amd it's shared gain.

Thanks for your answer. I figured that would be the case… I have a few overdrives (Seymour Duncan 805, Maxxon 808, plumes). I love the gain on it but I do like going from squeaky clean to dirty. I will say that on the clean channel, all of my dirt pedals sound loads better than then did on my clean Fender Blues Jr.

It shoildnt be real dirty with gain on like 6 on clean channel. But then maybe not dirty enough on lead. I use my Jubilees live and it is a compromise but I rarely use clean amd cleanish is good enough for me. So it works. Put an EQ in loop for a solo boost or use Clip mode on Channel 1.

I know after seeing this guys demo of the amp and all the tones he nailed with it was what convinced me to get one. Since he shows the knob positions at the top of the screen maybe it can be of help for you.

Not sure if you can access that link or not, but there are sound samples and settings there that may help. I know that wasn't exactly the question you were asking, but they may be a good starting point.

Sparkly clean is a gain of like 4 but that sadly won't get OP to heavy without changing things. It will be a compromise.
Also it says pull Rhythm Clip OUT for sparkly clean. That will activate a clip on that channel which will make it distorted.

Here are my current settings. The output master is low because my kids are right above sleeping. I play using high output switched on. Pull rhythm clip and pull channel are both pushed in. It sounds reasonably clean, and rock heavy. Not Megadeth heavy. So you may need an overdrive for that. IMG_20210617_204325.jpg

Yup keep gain around 6 or 7 is even cleaner although I find my Jubes relatively clean on ch 1 with gain near 8. Turn guitar volume down a touch.

Use the guitar volume. The best sound from the jubilee is to set the master volume on 10 and lead volume to taste. It becomes a single channel amp but it’s the best tone from this amp for sure.

    Input gain to taste

    Lead volume to taste

    Master volume 10

    Treble 4

    Middle 6

    Bass 7

    Presence 2

Favorite jubilee settings-setting the master to 10 and using lead master as over all volume control is the secret.Just roll off on guitar volume to clean it up.

    Input gain 6

    Lead volume to taste

    Master volume 10

    Treble 4.5

    Middle 6

    Bass 7

    Presence 2

I find that if I am using both clean and dirty that I like the input gain at 6 or 7. Any higher and the clean channel is too dirty with my active pickups. I use a tubescreamer on the dirt channel for thrash rhythms and I have a second one for lead boosts. I also like to set the amp up for optimum dirt and add a multifx with the 4 cable method for my cleans. The Jubilee has a great clean channel but the dirt channel is the real draw of the amp.

I set mine the same way but I set my guitar to single coil mode on cleans instead of lowering my output volume.
