Hello!

My question is - would I be able to get a decent metal tone, and by that I mean Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc. (classic stuff, nothing modern), with the Marshall Origin 20 combo if I use pedals? Share your opinions and discuss :)

Nick
Yes.
FZ-5, SD-1, BD-2 in the front end - GE-7, CH-1, RV-6 in the loop.
I'm not a heavy distortion pedal guy, but I get just about anything I want with this rig.
E34L power tubes - greenbacks in the cab.
I've also run V30s and a V30/T-75 set.
It'll get as nasty as the 6101 if I push it.

The first thing you want to do is find a classic DOD Grunge pedal, and then throw it away and then play AC/DC licks on your new Origin like it was meant to :agreed:.

Nice, I like the humor :D
Nvm, I'm now convinced enough to buy the amp so, thanks for answering back everybody! Keep on posting in the thread if you've got something to add.

If you're getting the combo, the stock VTjr is a decent speaker.
I have 2 of them in one of my micro-stacks.
A dirt pedal in the front will get you some grind at just about any volume.
Crank the O20 and it will get a nice crunch on its own.
2nd pedal for your shopping list - EQ in the loop and this amp comes alive.

Thanks Solar!
It's one of my home-made cabs - all 5/8 ply & it matches the head.
The ORI212A was out of stock when I got the O20H.
I didn't really want the Marshall MDF cab anyway, and I DEFINITELY didn't want another pair of seventy-80s for the shelf in the closet.

It isn't a Marshall cab, however, the Orange 2X12 (PPC212V) is well built and offers 2 good Celestions. It's neither too heavy to carry around.

With cost for replacement speakers in a ORI212A, it could cost less to get the Orange.

Well, it might cost less, but those things are FUGLY. :D
And I've tried V30s with my O20H - meh...(imo)

You can put a BE-OD or a 5150 OD (or many more) in front of anything (or in the return of the FX loop and use one as a preamp) and get those tones. You can get those tones on a Hot Rod Deluxe with the right pedals. If you're getting your tones from a pedal, it's not all that different from amplifing a profiler/modeller. You get the tone from the box and then you just need a power amp to get volume.
