Its interesting, over the last year or so ive been in the market for several different Marshalls including the 2203x Reissue, the 1987x 50 watt and the 1959 SLP and whenever I would do a search to hear a Strat through one these amps the majority of all the videos I would find are players using Les Paul or Gibsons of some kind. I have both but i mainly play Strats now. I realize the Gibson Marshall tone is the iconic sound of rock but I always loved the Marshall Stratocaster tone! The Blackmore, Hendrix, Trower sound is just killer! Anyway just an observation.
Telecasters sound pretty fine screamirng through a juiced-up Marshall too. I like them all.... I think my favorite, though, is a Strat into a 2203 that's cranked just a bit past the sweet spot...where it can get a little ragged...maybe 8 or above on the master depending on the amp and cab.
Thanks Trel, that is the Dsl40c’s and Vox Tone Lab, Uvibe, and delay, and my MIM strat on the Sd Hot rails in the neck position. Thanks again brother. Mitch
My favorite Strat. The humbucker in the bridge has a coil tap. The ultra pickups are pretty hot but still have that Strat singing tone. In double coil mode the bridge pickup is a beast. I love it with the 2203 ...but with the 2466 it's just plain amazing.
Well, any of them really, it all depends which amp is on deck. The issue is I dont play my Strat all that much one reason being the other geetar player in our band plays a Strat so I always feel I should stick to my LPSs!?
I agree with the OP. I play Strats & Teles with my Marshall Superlead and they all sound good. I like using a Rat distortion with my single coil guitars going into the Marshall that is already over driven.
Don’t forget about the SRV sound. I remember back in the 90s when it seems like everybody, including myself, were chasing that SRV tone with Fender amps. All they needed was a 1959SLP and a Strat.
I forgot about Uli Roth. What a tone he had. When I was 17 and starting out I loved the album Virgin Killers. Amazing playing! Strat into Marshall. Im a huge Trower fan and there is this one interview where he explains that all through the year he's tried many different amps but never found what he calls "the big voice sound" in any amp but a Marshall. I totally know what he's talking about.
