That photo brings back fond memories of a great time and excellent tone, mine looked just like yours, and when I sold it, the heads were going for $500.00, it took me some time to actually sell it , but I wouldn’t let it go for less than $500.00, this was just before Christmas in 1983. Still kick myself for selling it !! Cheers
I have a mint 79 2204 JMP and I paid 1600.00 for it 4 years ago and was lucky to get it. I would not let it go for anything less than 1900.00 these days, they are just to had to find especially mint good sounding ones!
I turn on my 79-2204 every 2-3 months. Clearly not frequent enough to warrent keeping it however I could never bring myself to sell it. It's the ultimate Marshall tone of which most other amps are measured by imo. I picked it up for silly cheap about 7 years ago. They are certainly becoming harder to find.
I bought my first JMP a 79' 2204 in 1982 for $375. Ive seen asking prices on 2203 & 2204 JMP's @ $1600 to $1800+ but they never get sold that high hence why i told you $1400 to $1600. 60's & early 70's mint condition all original Plexi & metal panel Super Leads start @ $2.5K and up.
Cool I bought my first Marshall in 1976, a '72 Rosemary JMP50 for $350 Yep, their have been sales between $1,800 - $2,000 recently
I bought my 2203 last year for $1,500 and 2204 for about the same price(a few years earlier). They absolutely nail the late 70s and early 80s AC/DC tone that I always wanted. They are magnificent amps! I'd say in today's market, the 2204 is likely worth $1,500+, depending on condition and modifications.
In 1984, I paid $335.00 for a clean '79 2204 and a Kustom open back 4x12. I used the head for 25 years, until it just didn't sound the same. I started using smaller amps. I sold the head in 2013 for $900.00. It needed a new head cab; some maniac had cut cooling holes in it in the '80s. 8) Maybe I sold it too cheap. The kid was happy to have it.
I just bought a 1979 JMP 2204 MV with Marshall 4x12 1960A for $800 on Craigslist (Inland Empire So Cal)!! Works perfectly and just happened to be first responder to the ad and luckily close by his location. Not stolen and from a really cool local musician. I dropped it off this past weekend to the tech to give it good check up (former Plexi Palace tech). I remember being able to grab these in the 90s for real cheap! Not letting go this time.
I was very skeptical at first and insisted on meeting at a crowded public place. I figured at that price I would take the chance without testing it. But the seller was a really nice guy in a nice truck. Middle aged like me. It was a hell of a deal and a very lucky "right place, right time" for once!
Told you. Reverb & Ebay prices are up not because the gear value has increased but the seller fee's on those sites have gone up. Reverb & Ebay get 5% of whatever you sell and there are other fee's. I'll never pay those inflated prices but someone will thats another reason they do it. I would suspect prices will continue to go up til we have a market crash at some point. Nature of the beast.
I bought mine from a guy off Craigslist. Think he was originally asking $2000? That’s a bit steep for an amp with non original grill cloth and speakers.
