Who knows, they might have been re-wired inside like his guitars... Also, there's no such thing as a copyright issue, screengrabs of stuff in non-commercial discussions thereof are very much fair use.
I jumper the channels on my superlead but I never seen any pros or guitar heros do it. Oh wait. Eric Johnson does and I think Warren Haynes did when he used his Marshall. That's all i can think of.
Having just bought a SC212 Cab and an Origin 20 head while we wait down here in NZ for the SV20 heads to come back into stock, this whole subject has been on my deep dive radar the past 3 months. I was very recently excited and annoyed to find my AC30 CCH head through a Torpedo Captor (so I can crank the amp) and a Helix Cab (IR) sounds amazingly close to some of the early LZ sounds and breakup, harmonic content etc. Annoying to find out I already had that tone after spending so much but all part of the fun of being a guitarist in the 21st century. Smothered by choice I call it!
I think I should clarify my above post,i don't think I got across what I meant to say,so here goes. I wasn't suggesting that Jimmy Page had a better sound with the AC30's because it was a Vox/Marshall thing,i meant to say that his Zeppelin sound must have been what he wanted for that Band & whichever Amp he was using he would have got to the same sound.
Jimmy's sound was great because he is great. He could have used almost anything and would always sound great. Even IF he used the same kit for every gig, it would inevitably sound slightly different each time. Rock n' roll
Everyone always ends up sounding like they sound after a few knob twists, jumper cables or no jumper cables, no matter what they’re jacked into.
No matter what you do you will never have Page's tone. Many have tried and some get close. I bridge my channels for fuller tone.
At a minimum, I have found the above to be sadly true, at least for myself and my playing/tone. But I've never owned a jumper-capable amp so I wouldn't know about this specific knob twist at issue here.
I end up on the high treble input on my SV20H every time I jam with the fellas. At home i experiment and sometimes i think a certain combination of jumping is the one but i I end up tossing that little jumper cable in a jam. A Les Paul needs cut. Or at least my R7 does.
Cool photo. I love Jimmy, his playing, song writing, arranging and producing. HATE his tone, maybe this explains why. Always sounded jagged, nasally and abrasive too me. Doesn't stop me from being a huge fan.
During the entirety of Zeppelin they were stock. Some say they were modded to take KT88s, some claim they were bone stock. After modding 3 superleads for KT88s I fall into the former category. During the entirety of Zeppelin, Pages' guitars were wired stock Sure you can get there, but it takes VOLUME. Through the Treble channel. With the Treble and Presence jacked. This guy does a pretty good job: http://www.royalamps.com/home.html
Wow, that sounds great http://www.royalamps.com/music-player/demo/audio.html Greta Van Fleet could only hope to sound that good.
Yeah, his guitar tone from his SG/Marshall combo is pretty great. The sounds, guitar and band, on the Royal amp page are very alive
