I was looking for a JCM800 Combo and found this JCM900 to a nice price (I think)

The price would be about 600Usd

    What's done before Advertising:
    1. Reconditioning and revamping of the Tolex
    2. Cleaning the front and rear panel
    3. Inspection and cleaning of potentiometers
    4. Control of electronics (voltages, Etc.) and all soldering
    5. Control of tube and adjustment of bias
    6. Control of FX Loop and Reverberator
    7. Test

A Marshall "made by Marshall"-made in England on 29 June 1996.
The amplifier has traditional large Drake transformers and also original Tubes (ECC83 with marking Marshall) in preamp and power amplifiers (marking Made in Russia 5881 in the power amplifiers).
This combo looks like it left the factory just yesterday-so nice and fresh is the!!!. Most of his life has been standing indoors (not rehearsal) with bias adjustment "cold".

    Test of Johan Segeborn

    Some pictures from the ad.

What do you guys think ?????

First Marshall I ever played was a JCM 900 combo. They are good amps, I would even call them underrated a little.

However, in my experience the sounds I recall from that 900 or even the 900 half stack the same guy owned were not quite the same as my 800. More compressed and modern sounding. I would say "crunchy" and a little less open.

So if you really want 800 tone keep looking for the 800 IMO.

Others who own both currently may chime in...I can only go on memory. I would say the JCM 900 combo was more similar to my old DSL 401 combo than any sort of 800 though.

I have the same amp but with 100 watts. They are excellent amps. I have a JVM and JCM 800, and the JCM 900 can hang with both amps.

That power transformer looks huge, even more so for a 50W. Is that the original stock PT?

That amp should be quite heavy to haul around. They are good sounding amps if you are able to get the volume up there a bit.

    That amp looks exceptionally clean.

Usually in an amp that is from 1996 (such as the one posted by the OP) you'll see at least a little build-up that kinda looks like rust around either the power transformer, the output transformer, or both; this amp's transformers look like they're brand new. Then, adding to what Ricky said about the transformers, it makes me wonder if they're not the original transformers. Does it matter if either is original or not? Depends on what you think is important. For the price (OP states it's around $600USD) I'd say it probably doesn't matter if they're not original but if the seller is claiming they are Drake brand, then they need to be such as advertised.

I don't know if this amp is original or a rebuild of some kind, but it looks clean and the components look to be in good shape (even the speakers-from what I can see). I'd say it is definitely worth the time and effort to at least check it out if you are a fan of the JCM900 sound.

For that price I would jump on it. Looks clean and where are you going to find an amp like that for 6 bills. Just plug in and test it out!

This guy has put some effort into it to get it this clean.
I'm pretty sure the tolex had a treatment with black shoe polish or tyre gel or something. I don't mind, I do that as well when I clean up an old amp.
On top of that the photos are nicely taken as well. :thumb:

    Really great amp.
Fix a couple things, and it's a fucking MONSTER.

But no, this amp is not the same as an 800. This amp has solid state / tube hybrid preamp.

If you want the 900 that is similar to 800:
That would be 2100,2101,2500,2501,2502 models, which is all tube preamp w/ solid state effects loop.

^Right. Best thing I did with my 900 DR was mod the 900 DR out of it. But it was damn easy to do. They're solid as hell and it's essentially a dual mv plexi with reverb now.

That looks great! It's A nice amp, sounds good, easy to travel with. only downside is that little speakercabinet. I like a more 1936 sound.. I have a 1922 cabinet .. it will do for what I do with it. But That Amp looks new! It is very usefull and all the ones that say JCM 800 is better.. piss off It is different and if you like rock of the 80s or 90s this amp will deliver. There was a demand for Hotroded JCM 800. How far do you want to go. It's a great amp. It's all about taste.. no Bad no Good.

for $600 I'd buy it just because how clean it looks (as long as everything checks out). it looks right out of the box mint.

I have a 900 and an 800, and I don't think the two amps have many similarities. But, that's why I keep both. Each offers its own tones, and I like both.

For 600$ I would take it home, as long as the amp works as it should, a 900 dr is a fine amp , and as others have posted, a different flavor of Marshall tones :2c:

    It depends on "which" 900.
The first 900s were like 800s.

This amp is a candidate for
    "outskirts of infinity" mod.
