I’ve got the 4500. Channel A gets a great jtm/ plexi tone. Channel b helps using an eq pedal or in my case a voodoo lab giggity pedal. Really changes things for the better. 2 totally different amps. Depends on what your looking for . What kind of music etc. That being said that Mesa is mint! Idk I’ve got the rectifier multi watt .

Try it. Try them side by side and make a decision.

In my opinion the solo rectifier is the best rectifier.

I don't think the trade would be unfair to either of you, as long as everything is in good order, no repairs needed.

If you’ve got other Marshalls I’d make the trade. The mesa will give you some new tonal options and variety.

My amp & cab are showing more wear but have fresh tubes, biasing and a tune up. Everything is in perfect working order.

I’d go Mesa if you like it.

    Pretty cool deal

Check speakers, can't see from the pic if the Mesa cab has the proper expected ribs on the cone

It's not being a traitor if you still have a Marshall! I have a 2203, three 1959s, and a Dual Rectifier.

There's always room for another amp and more variety is good.

I owned both , for me the JCM 900 by a narrow margin. It just does what I like.
The Rec is great and versatile . Nice solo boost , tube swapping, multiple voicing. Still I would prefer the 900 even if they both had plain wrappers on them with no name.

Does the Boogie have a better resale value than the 900 ? Just in case you didnt like it?
So you could get back into a Marshall ,or break even at the very least.

Probably not worse and likely easier to move. Also, seems to be in better cosmetic condition.

IMHO: the Mesa is probably worth a bit more now, but the 900 will be more desirable and worth more in the next few years just because of the Marshall name. Better investment.

I had a Mesa Heatbreaker combo which probably does the dual rec tone. I know I like it. That said, I like the 900 as well.

Probably would even consider it if I didn't already have four other 50w Marshall heads.

I would have done it, but I think he decided to go with a cash offer instead. He's asking $1300 for the pair. I might offer $1400 and see if he bites.

    My kind of thread ..

I have a JCM 900 SL-X 2500 head. I surely wouldn't trade that for a Dual Rectifier. That head absolutely crushes with a clean boost. Surely an absolute favorite of mine ( what amp isn't? Ha ha)

However, I have an old 2-channel Dual Rectifier Rev. G through a Soldano 4x12 V30 cab. Clean boosted, it is FAT and PUNCHY. There's NO tone like the Rectifier. Orange Channel + Silicon Diode + Bold = tone heaven. The GIRTH. Cleans are super sparkly and spanky. The way the amp is set up, it rivals both my Mark III heads through my EV half back. Dare I say I like it... better?

With that being said, I have never played the JCM 900 4500. If you have other Marshalls, a different flavor for some variety is cool. Sparks cool ideas and creativity.

I'm sort of thirsting for a Multi Watt Rec myself lately - or maybe a Badlander.
