I suspect the pedal has a little to do with that.
I thought the Diezel had a harsher brittle tone and was a lil more fizzy than the JCM. I’ve played JCM’s since 82 so I may be a tad bit partial to the Marshall tone. The Diezel probably cuts well in a mix though but side by side w/no band I preferred the JCM.

JCM800 is smoother
2204 for the win!
800 but maybe Diesel needs slightly different eq or a little less gain.
Can't I just take both? That's a mean dual amp rig waiting to happen right there
I am going to guess the SD-1 in front of the Diezel will smooth out as well.
The difference between the two is the 2204 makes third order distortion in the cf . In the diezel does not all gain
