I assume you have that amp and/or the guitar turned way down if you’re getting that clean a sound on the bright channel.
One can do anything on a Marshall, especially an ol' school Marshall .....they didnt care what ya play out of 'em.....
The streotype / stigma didn't come til later
Oh, that's not me ... the video showed up in my youtube recommendations last night, and I liked it enough to share here. I'd say you are right on the money though, as I'm guessing it's a combination of having the amp set clean to begin with, and then having his guitar volume backed off as well.
For sure. I love the clean tones you can coax out of a NMV Marshall ... though, in fairness, I like the clean tones from more modern Marshall amps as well (especially like what I hear from the JVM).
Man...the country, Tele tones you can get out of a Marshall....to die for !!
"Fender cleans "....pfffft , whatever
AND ,the Lo input on a two hole Marshall is great for ANYTHING. I play bass out of it ...banjo , mandolin , acoustic guitar
It swings and the tone is really nice!
That looks like a Yamaha SG guitar.
I can't remember which model, but Jens Larsen did a video using a Marshall (as well as some other amps that aren't traditionally used in Jazz) too. I'll take a look and see if I can find it and I'll post it (hopefully you won't mind) if I do.
Here it is:
Gotta say that L5 sounded the best for Jazz, but I think the Marshall came in 2nd out of the bunch. Would rate the Vox 3rd, and Fender 4th. Thanks for sharing that clip ... hopefully we'll get some other good clean examples people can share.
I checked his video again, and it's a Gibson Pat Martino. Nice sounding guitar.
I cringed...sorry but Fender crushes the Marshall clean in these videos.
My original response was even too sarcastic for me
It's cool, we can disagree, and that's one of the great things about tone, and really hearing overall. We all perceive things a bit different. I like that.
I don't think it's that hard to get a clean sound out of any Marshall , just set the settings where you dial that tone in and Jazz out .
Some consider al dimeola jazz so...lp through a loud marshall half stack.
I don’t do it a lot, but once in a while...
...an L-5 through a plexi is a beautiful thing.
Clean to scream jazz through cranked plexi:
That was interesting ... I only made it to 2:07, as it started making me feel nervous for some reason.
Even though I know he's trying to prove a point (which I agree with), I'm not sure that the JCM was the right amp to use in the demonstration? The Roland sounded really good, as did the Vox, but I still prefer the Fender.
I can get a nice tone from my 1974X.
What a drummer Billy Cobham is!!
