Ok I have really been getting into the early metal, mainly Sabbath/Ozzy, so I started looking into Randy Rhoads' guitars...and I see this black USA made Jackson RR1 (2001) come up on a local buy/sell, guy is in the same city. He says Mint condition, no fret wear, case queen, set up 4 yrs ago then lived in case, all original, never gigged. He is asking $2,500 CAD = $2,020 USD.

    * What do you guys think? (about the guitar and the price)

    Thanks!

This thread needs some pics of the guitar in question. Someone posted a RR guitar sometime w/in the last year or so, and it kinda made me want one. Not sure why I've basically overlooked them all these years.

    From the ad:

I was originally thinking about getting one of the new model (non weight relieved) Gibson Les Paul Standards, I figured it would be a variation on the one I already have, a weight relieved Studio, with different pickups, and my wife was ok with it. But then I started thinking of picking up something totally different and started looking at V's. I've never played a V before but I hear these are really awesome, and would probably nail the tones I'm after. It's also cheaper than a new LP.

Jackson RR1 or Gibson LP Standard???

That is actually a very fair price...at least compared to the Reverb listings.

As far as Jackson or a Gibson, how important is the whammy bar to you?

For METAL :headbanger:the V is a better fit IMHO

Of course Iommi plays an SG, so....:hmm:

    Beautiful guitar!
Too pointy for me, but that's just me.
I like a guitar I can sit and play without a strap.

I have a good friend of mine who owns probably 60 to 70 USA made Jacksons and 2G for one of these is a good price considering the current market. I sent him the pics and he said they're fetching around $2500 US lately. I'd grab it and if your not into it you can always sell it.

These guitars are like butter. Smooth, silky and fast. Sadly the neck is too small for my fat stubby little sausage link fingers. :wallbash:

Make sure to check serials and google up some telltale signs of fakes

Also be sure you can deal with the size and shape. Playing RRs sitting down involves putting the lower horn between your legs and pointing the neck way up. Playing RRs standing up involves wide open spaces or being VERRRY aware of its dimensions and your surroundings.

exactly. very limited with this one. one can do it but its not comfortable.
it is a nice looking guitar indeed, but to me its way over priced because of
the name attached to it. i cant pay for a name no matter whos it is.
and you can bet its not like what RR played any ways. they never are.

i'll accept that title. but its up to punk himself. 100 guitars i can think of that play equally as well
that will keep major coin in his pocket.
you know as well as i do that hes paying way extra for the name tied to it too.
signatre model guitars are rarely what the artist themselves played but it is what the artist allowed the maker
to tie their name to. all about profits.

    big difference isnt there.
there was a video about a decade ago that the guys took down like 10 artist model guitars
to see what was in them. if i remember correctly there was only 2 that was what the artist played.
    1) the Fender Robert Cray model, 2) was the Fender Jimmy Vaughn model.

now days i suspect its a bit different cause to many people are getting artist models and
the companies are now keeping them at price points when designing.

Seller says he has several guys trying to sell gear to get funds together, and one guy has offered him full price if he ships it. I live about 20 mins away and have cash, so I'm going to meet the guy Tuesday afternoon to have a look...hope he's still got it.

if i were tryig to sell and had a bite i would tell you i had other folks too.
just saying. it speeds up the sell and gives you little time to think it over.
good luck to you either way.
