I will chime in and say it is not needed at all . As why would you need it to begin with and you are so correct that I do run my pair wide open as that is truly the best way to get the sonic joys and wonders of the glorious tone . Clean wise this can peel paint and then go to the lead channel and buckle in buck a roo as it is where the fun is for myself :headbanger:

SRV was one heck of a criminal, though.

Indeed. I've thought about spraying a 1U rack case green and putting the guts of the TS in there. Keep the footswitch in the original pedal (might want it just to control a relay inside the rack kit or something, though). "TS9-R1".

I'd say it's not illegal, but doesn't make sense.
In fact, No Overdrive Pedal ever made sense in front of a Tube Amp...
If you have a Tube Amp- use it's Tube Distortion. If you have a Tube Amp that has not enough Gain on Tap for your desired Sound, use another one, that has.
Why use a OD as a clean boost if a EQ Pedal gives you more flexibility or a Treble Booster naturally just boosts the right frequencies...
I have tried to like Transistor based OD Pedals in every possible configuration, but I never have found one that worked for me.

Not in Europe no. Where are you based?

Actually I used to use a tubescreamer on all the time with my tsl. Clean boost only as mentioned above. Worked pretty well I thought.

    Illegal.

    It's called the SD-1.

I have used an OD in front of mine mainly as an extra bit of grind in Lead channel. I use the pedal with Level UP and NO gain so pedal is simply boosting a hotter signal to front end. I have found TS etc with simply a tone control to thin things oit a bit so I use OD with a 2 or 3 band EQ control.
Nothung wrong with it at all, if you want extra thick meaty metal tones, do whatever ya like with it.

The SD-1 sounds killer on the Jubilee. I also like the ZW44 which i think may just be a SD clone.

Metal tones: Horizon Devices Precision Drive.

But who plays metal through a Jubilee?

Had a mint 1988 ( black ) 2554 for a while , which was the most frustrating amp I’ve ever owned . The Jubilee range of amps are held in such high esteem but as much as I tried , couldn’t get a decent sound out of it . Really dull and lifeless , the best I could get out of it was set clean with my mxr 5150 od for dirt .

I think the lead channel works fine for metal on it's own but for tight thrash rhythm parts I use a slight clean boost. I use several boosts with it. Keeley modded Ds1. Zw44 and tube screamer.
