How to move heavy amp on carpet

Imo the obvious answer is casters.

Sounds like you'll be moving it often and a perfect solution to your dilemma. Hardware store has casters that attach with 3 screws, use a cordless drill with a phillips bit and some wood screws and screw em on. It will take less than 5 minutes to install and if you ever decide to remove them the only evidence are 3 little screw holes (each caster) that are nearly invisible on black tolex.

I swear by casters on heavy amps.

I need to re-position my DSL40 around in my carpeted practice room on a frequent basis, and my back issues don’t jive with actually picking it up. I’m looking for good approaches folks have found that don’t involve dollys or ugly carts. It needs to look good and not too industrial. Do you use Teflon sliders (seems like they would squirm out from underneath the amp)? Has anyone seen a low profile rolling table that would be a good fit?

OOOH! OOOH! I now this one! I bought a sheet of sanded cabinet grade plywood and some casters from the Home Depot to move my DSL40CR around my thickly carpeted basement. I will try to remember to take a pic tonight. It works perfectly. I even added a little 2" strip to the front that kicks the top back a couple degrees.

That worked so well that I built another cart for my pedalboard and 5W Bugera that I keep in our bedroom on my side of the bed. It is perfect! Now I can roll the whole thing into my closet when my wife looses her shit because I have guitars "absolutely everywhere!!!!!"

Neither are done though. I plan on painting them black then adding walnut skirting. The amp/board setup will get power and lighting capabilities. It's pretty badass and my marriage hasn't been better!!

Sorry for the delay, taking these pics were a bit down my list of to-do’s. But, here you go.

If you don’t want to read through the description, then here is the nut of it: you can get a 4’x4’ sheet of sanded ply at the depot and 4 casters for under $100 (which is still stupid, $100? really?). I think mine are 2” and they all swivel. Our carpet in the basement is thick (TWSS) and these do fine. I don’t feel the need to attach the amp to it, though you could. But, bada-boom you’re done.

My main goal was portability and that they didn’t look too terrible from the front. Next, I will either take the short cut and paint these black or, preferably, laminate in walnut. Then I want to build up the sides with walnut while also creating a skirt to hide the wheels.

The pedal board unit will be redone with that small board coming off and a similar board being built in to the cart. I play at home so have no need for portability other than within the house.

The pedal board roller was designed to also take a Fender Custom ‘54 Champ which will replace the Bugera. The stand section of the cart will probably be redesigned with the 2x4’s being replaced by solid walnut legs and a laminated top. Might do stainless legs with a walnut too.

Is finding a way to NOT have to reposition the amp on a frequent basis an option? Why do you need to move it around the room so frequently? Can you eliminate the need for that and just keep it in one place...maybe moving it a couple times a year to clean or whatnot?

Ha ha LoL the vacuuming, cleaning and what not happens every week or two. Wish it was only a couple of times a year! Plus, it’s in kind of “public” place so needs to be “stashed” out of the way every now and then.

They make small folding hand trucks, no need to do anything else. I think I paid $25 for mine many years ago at home depot. For the same exact reason, I had a 50 lbs Vox AC15 Id tear my back out every time I tried to lift it, the small hand truck was the answer.

I also have a slanted amp stand that I haven’t been using because it’s kind of a pain to lift the amp onto and off of it. But I might be able to put the stand plus amp onto this cart and move it around!

Yah that'd work too. I like the Harbor Freight one as it's length is an inch closer(24) to a quick 25in measurement I did on mine.

Amazon's 500lb limit is plenty though and it would definitely work.
