What's your preferred thumptactic?
Replace the NFB resistor with 47k in series with the parallel combination of 220k and 4.7nF. Lifted from Dave Friedman.
I just turn my sv20h up into a closed back 2x12 with V30 and a greenback. with my lp and no pedal it thumps good. i'm plugged in high sensitivity with high treble on 7.5 and normal on 4
Same for the SC20. The volume and the gain need to be open for it to kick in (no pun intended).
EVH 412. PPC Orange 412.
Volume is a given.
And some secret sauce...in sig.
Move them aside and plug in my 100w. Or better yet, sit the Studio amps on top of a 100w, and pretend the sound is coming from the 20w.
With these 20 watters? Reamp to 50/100 watts. Thar ya go.
Not a studio, but here's my 100w Haze15 w/ MXR 10 band in the loop.
Use a DOD 250 (Reissue) in front as boost (level up, gain min). It adds a lot of bass. I wasn't aware of this till I tried it. You can get lots of thump, even at relatively low volume. It doesn't matter that it cuts some of the highs, since the SC20 is pretty bright anyway. If you turn up the gain on the pedal, this effect disappears.
Just crank up the volume with a good 2x12 or 4x12.
I get as much useable bottom with my Lynch module. No pedals.
To be serious? No 20 watter has thump. To my ears. Reamped? Yep.
Yeah mon. Good combo!
Yes, I also have a PS2, and you can get enough thump to rattle your house to bits.
Love that pic!!!
Show of hands. Who saw that commercial when it came out?
The 20 watters have no less relative low end compared to a 100 watt head. Marshalls aren’t made for chug chug low tuned music to begin with. Just get an EQ pedal and you should be fine.
Nothing worse than low volume thump
And a bandaid EQ pedal...
I hate chug'n but I do love a big iron thump!,
Between my Thor and SC? Daem. Like a hand job to oral opera.
I don't own either (yet), but if I wanted more bottom end thump I'd install some JJ E34L power tubes. Makes any Marshall sound bigger.
Yeah there’s a big difference between the punch in the nuts from a 100 watter through a 4x12 and the chunky chuggy low end of a modern amp.
Or? JJ 6CA7'S
Both are fat bottom girlz.
Hehee. Well for me I'm an old rocker. Not modern player.
Yeah that ball clacking power changes a player. For good or bad.
Still have love for my mini 800 ripper. And there are ways to turn it into a big thumper also. Best of both worlds. Fun Fucking amp either way. It is a bitey amp though. I totally understand OP's question.
I would add speaker choice matters with a upper Kerrangy Marshall. A big tuning option for bottom.
