This new effects loop design uses the free preamp tube half of V2b and also now has a true bypass switch added as well.
I've also cascaded the front end for lots of natural gain levels and added a three way cathode switch to add different flavors to the gain levels.
If anyone has any questions about the loop design and or mods please feel free to ask me and I'll try to help the best I can.
Hope you all enjoy the sound clip.
    Cheers,

Nice tidy wiring. Looks great, sounds killer! Great job.

I bet you like to go into music stores where they don't know you and freak out the younger folk, huh?

I made the same amp half a year ago, but without the tidy wiring :D

Thank you for all the kind and encouraging words, I greatly appreciate it.
I haven't done that in a longtime, plus all the covid restrictions haven't helped.
I remember giving a crowd of people an eight finger tapping lesson at a Toronto music store once. :)

    Thank you for the kindness.
Have you tried some gain mods or effect loops in your Hiwatt build?
The tube buffered effect loop is a must-have for me.
It's something most won't do to an original Hiwatt from the 70's as it kills the vintage stock value of these old beauties.

Yes I did the FX loop using V2B, with FX level control and bypass switch. Its not tube buffered though, I think the triode is a recovery gain stage.

I started from a Sound City mark iv from early 70s

    Very cool!
If you feel comfortable posting pictures of your work please feel free to do so.
I forgot to mention I have a send level pot for the effects loop hidden in the voltage selector switch position. I found it to be the prefect spot for it. :)

You did a very good job on it.
Thank you for posting the thread, it was a very good read.
I've done the same thing as you but in reverse.
    New back to old.
This one has a tube buffered effect loop installed different from the design your using.
The amp head in the OP has a effect loop very similar to the effects loop design your using in your sound city rebuild.

    @Michael RT Beautiful build!

I'm curious, what are you using for your shielded wiring? Looks like 2 core with shield, correct? Any particular reason you use this rather than the often typical RG-174 coax? (Note: this is a question about amp building in general, rather than your Hiwatt build.)
    Thanks.

    Thank you!
It's three core ground shield with mylar and some other form of insulation as well.
It's what was available to me at the time and seems to work great.
I've never really compared different types of shielded wire before.
Either it works or it doesn't and I've never had any noise issues with any of my builds.

I get asked a lot if this amp can do the VH thing.
I think it does alright considering it's a Hiwatt. :)
