Hi there. Just joined the forum today.
I'm based in Hampshire in the UK.
Have been playing on and off for 27 years (more off than on to be frank) and just picked up a vs65r combo at the beginning of the year to use as a practice.. mainly on headphones at night but durng the day with the speakers to.
Love the overdrive channel, but most of all the way the clean channel breaks up once you get the volume up halfway.. (clearly with headphones- would blow the windows out if it was on speakers!)

Was playing today, and literally the sound just went. One minute playing, next minute gone- silence on both channels.

Googled around, and figured this forum might be a good place to come for help :) will start a thread when I work right place post.

My guitars are a '94 Les Paul studio (beautiful wine red, ebony fingerboard, owned since new) and strat copy, plus an accoustic

Sorry I have no experience with your amp brother, but there are many knowledgeable members here that will be along to help you out with your questions.
I believe @SkyMonkey has that same amp, he should be along soon.
    Cheers
    Mitch

Does the headphone jack still work?
I don't have that amp, but I know it has one ECC83 / 12AX7 pre-amp tube that may be the problem.
If you don't have a spare tube to swap, getting an extra is never a bad idea.
    Also check for blown fuses.

Hi there. Nothing out of either headphone on either channel, and twiddling volumes and fx loop mix doesn't change anything.

The main fuse is OK, it lights up as usual, footswitch channel switching appears to work (as in channel lights activate ok).

Thinking about it, when it "went", for a few minutes, changing the clean volume knob garnered a few pops for a minute or so before it went completely silent- which its been since.

Not tried opening the amp up yet as:
    - time :-(
    - have 2 toddlers, so need to pick a moment when they are not around for electronics surgery
    - whilst I did study engineering, which included high voltage electronics and various labs with high voltage systems, it was over 20 years ago since I even looked at a non-trivial circuit diag, plus I'm aware that tube amp capacitors can retain significant charge even when turned off.

    Thinking overnight, options are:
-take apart myself, look for obviously blown or fused components
    - take to a local amp repair place (there are one or two within 30 minutes drive)
    - find another vs65r second hand
    - (man maths) buy a full tube amp with headphone out.. (DSL5? Don't think the DSL1 has a headphone out,)

    Try a new tube.
I'm not exactly the person who's going to talk you out of buying another amp.
If you decide to upgrade to a full tube amp, get used to buying tubes.
FWIW, the "emulated" headphone output on the DSL's suck.

Thanks for the welcome all. Really appreciated.
Going to order a new ECC83 tube before opening up the amp, so I can at least switch the tube there and then and see if that fixes things.

No point in opening it up just to stare at it :)

So - for closure on the "why won't my amp work" question.
I decided to test he amp with my looper running through the FX loop, and lo and behold - it worked, demonstrating that the issue lay with the pre-amp, and not the power amp stage.

So - ordered a tube, swapped it tonight - and its working again - so prize to Fritz288 on the diagnosis! :)

Only had an amp with valves since Jan this year, and first time I've had to change one - so its a learning experience, but was surprisingly painless.. :)

    Thanks all :)

    Hi there- thanks.
Thats the problem, what id want is quiet tube amp which can be played at normal (not loud) room volume, whilst exhibiting the characteristic tube breakup on the clean channel..

Which is what makes the amps with built in attenuators attractive.

Anyway, all on the back burner for the moment as one of my cars looks like it needs a chassis refurb which is going to sap my disposable income for a bit :-(
Least the valvestate is now working :)
