May we discuss this please? So as a former owner of a good handful of Gibson Les Paul's I knew when I sold my last one last year, I'd probably never be able to buy another one prices have gone up used people want way more than I think they're worth. I'm a broke ass bitch that'll probably never be able to buy another one. So with that being said I'm certainly not going to pay close to $1,000 for an epiphone when I used to buy them things for hundred or two for a custom. I have a little bit of money at the moment and I really want a purple Les Paul custom. I'm seriously considering rolling the dice and buying one from dhgate. I don't care about the electronics I know it's a crap shoot and I don't know what I'm going to get... But I'm seriously interested in throwing 300 bucks at it. I've read that you can have custom touches done you can have your own logo made which I'm very interested in doing not because I give a shit if it says Les Paul or Gibson on it but I think it would be cool to have my name on it. I've read that the quality is getting better in most cases and to be honest I would say 75% of the ones I've ever touched in my life have been okay guitars no worse than any other 300 dollar guitar. So I'm interested in has anybody bought one recently what did you think of it how was the experience how long did it take to get it did anybody get custom touches added to theirs? I really don't give a rat's ass about the legality the counterfeitery I've heard all that stuff over and over and it doesn't bother me you can say what you want. And as soon as I put my own logo on it the counterfeitery goes out the window so I'm just curious to hear about real life instances of buying these things and how it went for you
havent tried those but would like to hear your feedback if you do. I have built a couple kits out of china. Great guitars (light weight long tenon) once you throw out everything but the wood lol.
Never heard of hdgate but I got an LP from aliexpress for a couple hundred bucks and was pleasantly surprised, I replaced all the electronics and plastic, had a local luthier tweak the frets and I had an LP ready to rock for about $500 all in.
Have you looked at the Eastman varnished finish? https://www.eastmanguitars.com/electric_solid_body scroll down, click on the Jr style at the bottom where it says "antique varnish" models... the LP59 edition: https://www.eastmanguitars.com/sb59_v I wish that they did them non-relic'd, but, the sunburst don't look too bad... a nice write-up: https://guitar.com/review/eastman-antique-varnish-sb59v/
Al Also Burny or Edwards! Those also have a great reputation. That said, I've always wondered about those DHGate guitars too. They have some cool ones, like the Rhoads Polka Dot V, and a bunch of other interesting guitars. Hopefully someone has experience with anything from them.
I've heard people really like the Harley Benton stuff. Affordable and good quality for the price. There was a HB thread about them here not to long ago. Worth looking into.
The Harley Benton lp's and Vintage V100 get good reviews online. Buying a real brand doesn't leave you saying "yeah, but" and also would likely be able to resale easier. Were I in the market for an affordable asian LP I'd probably be looking at one of those two.
I have an old ( not that old I suppose) Art 100, I used to love it, weighs a tonne, but I've played with everything and never got it sounding like it used to ( both no amp and with amp) I've tried soo many different strings but it just sounds more electric only to me evertime. It's now in the dagdad zone so I use it to muck around with Kashmir and Everlong but not much else, I've tried raising the pups and so on but it just isn't the guitar I remember
Just found this on dhgate, I've always wanted a Mustang but they were never available in lefty, I'm thinking I might order this. Another guitar I'd like is a TV yellow LP Jr Special in lefty thats never been available, I'll order that too if I can find one here.
