My 86 even though it's been around the block a few times is just better thought out than other double necks. Neck through, 22 fret access ( not that you will need it often but it is nice to have) nice balance, and a plethora of switching options, M22 buckers loud in proud, stereo out put if needed. Not light but hey it's two guitars:

Oh yeah, I'm familiar with Carvin..They're still in business? Cool!

I remember back in the 80's they were building some great guitars and amps..A lot of top name endorsers too, and I always thought their "factory direct" business model was a good idea as well. I had planned at one time to buy one of their 100 watt tube stacks, but then opted for a Marshall.

I also remember their doublenecks..Good-looking instruments!

If people actually pay these prices, I can't really fault the seller. There are people that have that kind of money to burn. Thankfully I don't have that kind of GAS for old gear. I look as used gear as depreciated so I only care about it if it's a good deal. Paying a mark up on old equipment doesn't make sense to me.

These aren't essential goods, like, you know, water, food, life saving medicine and the like. People are free to charge as much as they can get away with, the decision for the guitar & cash to change hands usually involves 2 parties, both have to agree on the sale.

The real issue with Essex is he pissed a lot of people off with the mustaine auction by purchasing the vast majority of the guitars BEFORE the auction was set to start, so no one else ever had a chance. Then he made a ridiculous claim that he purchased the guitars so everyone could play them at his studio and rainbows would appear. Turns out he just wanted to flip them. It’s like a blues lawyer that decided to use their large bank account to buy up all the cool shit just to make more money. It wouldn’t matter so much if they didn’t hoover up rare items that could have gone to fans. It just wasn’t a good look.

If you will pay way over the odds for an instrument just because someone famous owned it, you're a collector not a musician.

Rick, you could be the proud owner of my one of a kind Kiesel at a very good price, if you so desire. Although it's absolutely beautiful in every way I never bonded with it. I even changed all the elect. stuff and put in DiMarzio pu's in it, nothin'! Dam shame, oh well maybe I can trade it for an Explorer or something.

My Carvins are killer guitars. They came perfectly set up from Carvin. All my Gibsons and Fenders needed work to make them really good players

What are you, some kind of Guitar Socialist?

It's called free trade, capitalism and Market pricing. If you can't afford it you don't buy it and "this guy" is stuck with his stock.

That is too funny! Guitar socialist!! ROFL!!! I personally think this whole... 'buying of guitars owned by personalities' for high prices is crazy to start with, its just a guitar.. Jimi never gave a rats ass about any of his guitars, the white strat' was borrowed from Keith R. =via a girlfriend... its about the person playing... I'll stick with my baseball cards....
