I finally decided to switch out the Vintage 30's in my 2061 cabinet. I really liked the look of this cabinet, but I could never bond with it. I love V30's and they sound great in an old JCM 80 4x12 marshall cab, but I just couldn't get the V30's to sound good in this cab. I tried every amp with the 2061..including a 2203, 2204, vintage modern, JMP 1987, mini jubilee, JVM410H and origin 50 and none sounded that good using this cab. Then I would plug the same amps into the 4x12 and all the amps sounded GREAT!

Today my tech switched out the speakers for some well-worn UK made greenbacks dated to 1995. Man, what a difference. The cab sounds awesome! I don't know what it is...but the high-mid thing is gone, the tone with the greenbacks is more "organic" and the highs and lows are just where I like them and the mids are nice and chewy!

I had made up my mind to sell the 2061 if the greenbacks didn't work, but so far they sound really great! Played the 2204 and the mini jubilee with a good les paul today and the 2061 cab sounded really nice. Only problem is that I can only use amps with 50 watts or lower with this cab, but that's ok....I have the 4x12 for the 100 watt amps.

Anyway, just thought I would share this with the Marshall heads on this board.

Yep I get where you’re coming from , I’ve been using my 1922 cab mostly these days . It’s loaded with x2 73 t1281’s ( pulsonic ) and sounds particularly good with my newly acquired Ori50h . I’ve got a Blackstar series 1 oversized 4x12 loaded with v30’s that sounds particularly good with my Runt 50 . It doesn’t seem to work quite so well when I reverse the combinations.

You should have put a pair of creamback65's in it (130watts) and got the same result! You still can! :yesway:

That's interesting.

Pete Thorn settled on two v30's for his sig 2x12 cab that matches his 15 watt head.
Normally he mixes v30's with GB's, but said it didn't sound right in the 2x12. But amazing in his 4x12.

Either way, those 2061x rigs are overlooked gems. ENJOY !!!

I'm convinced that Greenbacks in most ANY cab usually sound amazing. Mix them in with M65 Creambacks if you want a little bit brighter treble response.
