So regular G12M-75 (hz). Not the Heritage one. Thinking of getting one for my DSL40CR. Currently running a V30 which I love, but I also have a Mesa Badlander setup with a 4x12 loaded with V30s. So looking for something a bit different maybe with the DSL40CR.

Can a 25W speaker be used in a 40W combo? I use at home so don't crank it anywhere near max volume.

If you're interested in alternatives. Personally I like the quality and tone out of the Warehouse guitar speakers these days a lot more than what Celestion is doing now. But to each their own.

I got an Eminence Wizard. Local speaker shop suggested it. It’s 75W. So far seems like it’s sounding what I was wanting - vintagey, 70s ish rock (Zep) and early metal (Sabbath).

Needs to break in of course. It’s a little crispy. But the tone is there.

Yup. I opted for the Guvnor but they're damn good speakers.

Maybe you should consider a Celestion Alnico 90watt Cream....

I'll second that. The Creamback is a Greenback with more capacity. I have had both, and also a Redback, for an even more powerful amp, and I have found the same flavor in all three. ;)

My favorite speaker for Marshall now is a Celestion G12H Creamback 75. It is an amazing speaker for all things Marshall. Pete Thorn and George Metropolis will also agree FWIW!!

I like the Cream Alnico 90 watt or the Creamback 65 in a combo open back amp.

I wouldn’t try that. A Scumback M75 would be perfect. Great vintage Greenback tone, but available in a few different wattages. 65w would be good for a 40 watt amp.

From the tone of the first post, I assume the combo has one speaker. I would not put the greenback in that combo. Now if the combo has 2 speakers, then the green back should only get 20 watts if in parallel with the other speaker. That is if I understand the question properly. If a one speaker combo, best to get a speaker suited to the wattage.

You could always run the DSL on half power(20watts)using the GB without worry. If I was going GB I'd use the 20 watt EVH greenie. Sound much better than the 25 watters do IME. Bottom end on them are excellent. The 20's take a beating. At least those in my 5153 412 have. I have over ran that cab by volume and its rated wattage threshold for many years and she takes it all. :naughty:

I just took out a V30 from my 40C and put in a Celestion Gold. The V30 has been stellar in the DSL. Made the crunch channel better compared to others I've tried. I hadn't really liked the crunch channel even boosted. It was ok with the 70/80, GB128, V series. I have an Anniversary H30 I just purchased to try in it but I got a deal on the Gold and in it went. It's rated at 50 watts so no worries. I wouldn't worry about the Anniversaries 30 watts either. I do run my DSL at a volume of 11am or noon 90% of the time at home.

The roll off from mean to clean on the Gold is rediculous. Eliminates any need for a clean channel. And the chime when cleaner...wow. I'm getting 4 more Golds for my 5150 Iconic 412. Yes...it is that good. No more reading review's on them, good or bad, wondering if spending hard earned $ is worth my time. I Fucking know hehee.
