I was on ebay and I did a search for Gibson Les Paul Standards and 9 pages of Standards came up with 200 per page. Page 1 listed Les Paul Standards located in the USA and the other 8 pages were all from Japan...WTF! Why are there so many being sold in Japan, is one to believe they are true made in USA Gibson Les Paul Standards and who in their right mind would trust them and then trust that it would make it here without being damaged. I cant understand why there are so many of them listed from Japan? Any ideas?

    It's a mystery!

Check the headstock....if it says "Res Paur" I'd be suspicious of their authenticity!!

    :bump:

Most of the one I looked at just out of curiosity did say Made In The USA with a realistic looking S/N...but still no way would I buy one from them.

Never been to the land of the rising sun, but from what I've observed electric guitars are still a big market over there and Gibson is happy to sell them plenty.

I'm guessing most if not all are legit. Do a search on Electro-Harmonix, and you'll find numerous listings from sellers in Japan. Rock music is big business there.

Japan is as big or bigger market for high-end guitars vs. USA

Also, they seem to have a different clientelle than here.... no doctors-lawyers, just young people who saved up.

Maybe covid financial problems are making them sell?

PS and then there's also tons of japanese guitar shops on ebay, employees from said guitar shops side-hustling, and also just rando opportunist flippers who post stuff they don't own but can procure.

yeah man the japanese market is killer. some of the biggest, best, and CLEANEST guitars stores
can be found in japan, as well as some of the largest vintage shops in the world.
im more likely to trust them above the stores here in the states. rock music is huge
over there. they love the 50's and 60's Americana so much that they have brought all the oldies
back in style over there. a whole culture has been made out of it.
remember, they still have pride over there.
