I read somewhere that Leslie West preferred the single cut Juniors because he thought they had more bass than the double cuts, which he found trebly.

Tough choice. Ive never had a Junior but I have a Special with humbuckers and a SG Standard and dig em both. The Special has Pearly Gates while the SG has 57 Classics. So both A2 magnets but the Special is noticably brighter. Might have something to do with the Special having 50's wiring while the SG has modern but more likely pot values.

Both great sounding guitars that clean up beautifully making them very versatile. Both lightweight and the two most resonant electrics I've owned. Both perfect tuning but I prefer the SG's more refined, wide/medium neck profile to the Specials wide/slim. OTOH I prefer the LP control layout.

    Both great, no nonsense guitars.

The '62 Jr is as light as a feather.

When I acquired both guitars, the vintage market was just beginning.

These guitars were old and used.

The '56 was part of a trade but it was listed at $600.00.

    I bought the '62 for $325.00.

So both were less than $1k:applause:

There's a lotta back n forth talk out there about "DCs dont have this or that"
"DCs dont stay in tune " Mostly nonsense
It more likely boils down to the setup on the individual guitar ..pickup proximity ..all that kinda stuff
Ive been through a few . In fact, my 1st junior was a DC
My current DC , a 58, is a ROCK MACHINE ! Thick as a brick of govt. cheese

There's a documented "taste test " with LW playing half a doz Juniors......guess which one won out ? Yep, the DC

I would love to own a Jr., but $1,500 for such a bare bones guitar would make me just go with a Tele instead.

^ That DC has as much ,or more balls as any of those guitars

When I was a kid , I wax WAY into the DC ,probably because of Keef & Lonesome Dave (who played both ,BTW)
My 1st Junior was a 58 DC that had been Humbugged & stripped . Sadly, it was stripped from a TV finish.

As time went on , I drank the Leslie single cut kool aid
But over the years ,and having developed an understanding of how the set up these guitars , Ive kinda gravitated back into DC world. I managed to grab another 58, cherry this time . Its a killer

I A/B'd the 56 and 63 Juniors last nite . I can' t say I preferred one over the other ,tone-wise . They just feel / hang a little differently. The 63 has a great neck on it , for an SG
