Apparently not everything was groovy in the 60s.

Those pants look like they were stolen from the homeless

I'm not quite sure what your after. Gibson pioneered many of their body shapes way ahead of everyone else. They have solid bodies shapes that are time tested, hollow and semi-hollow too. Variants of those shapes. Most new ideas are rejected by the masses. Fender is the same way. Popular shapes and variants that sell. Schecter has a variety of models that are all based on the Stratocaster shape. Also the Solo (Gibson inspired),and a few others. ESP has the 5 or 6 models. Most are variants of Gibson or Fender. Gretsch hasn't changed. Martin hasn't changed. Wylde Guitars are Gibson based. BC Rich were unique when they first came out. Lines are drawn. Everyone more or less stays in their lane. It's hard to re-invent the wheel. Most guitars are a variant of either Gibson or Fender.
    What's next?

Very well said and so true . Why does everyone else copy Fender , Gibson & Martin ? Answer because they can't think about anything on there own to design and build !

imo its actually even tougher than that.. never mind the shape, how about THAT sound?..

I think (hope) most of us can hear a tele, a strat, an LP, probably an es335 and a gretsch on a recording and be right >90% of the time.. I can't speak for everyone else but to me, there are a lot of guitar makes that have zero recognizable sonic signature..

To me the "modern v" looks retro and not modern.

I've got too many Gibsons...guilty as charged. They're all slight variations on their 50/60's electrics, some with upgrades, others completely stock.

I'm also a believer in the term "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" That's something Gibson has yet to learn, apparently.

This latest crap of a limited run of 19 Explorers and 81 Flying V's will (I'm sure) be priced about five times what they're worth.

That is a big time issue and conundrum . It was thing to come up with a unique shape that hasn't been done before . To come up with a unique sonic signature that's where some serious thinking and designs come from and makes me appreciate Seth Lover design for the PAF humbucker back in the mid 50's . WOW !

If I can ever be so lucky as to own a Ferrari, the first thing I’m gonna do is rip out that engine and drop a 427 into it, cover that famous red paint with gold sparkles, and hang fuzzy dice from the rear view mirror.

Gibson could open the “New Gibson/IKEA Store”. Guitar comes in bits and pieces which you assemble to your liking!

Fender just calls this the Custom Shop and charges a pretty penny on top. ;)
