Gibson is like Harley. People prefer traditional.

So true @Deftone they try and people moan that they just want the same old stuff re-issued (but cheaper of course, since nasty Gibson want to make money out them).

Ive always felt that there are a LOTTA options out there .......always have been . A lot of options have come n gone ,but Gibson has had the mahogany slab thing DOWN for over half a century .For me personally, I found no need to look elsewhere for that particular sound. I don't buy new instruments anyway ....

Sometimes, evolution isn't necessary. Is Fender having a hard time selling Stratocasters and Telecasters? I don't think so.

I say that Gibson should have a core lineup that is ALWAYS available and priced for the working man. A Les Paul Standard, a Les Paul Custom. A Flying V, an Explorer. An SG. A 335. Maybe even a couple of variants of each. All well featured, traditional models like the "vintage" ones we see in the collections of our friends and in the better music stores that specialize in quality vintage gear. Let them add and delete other models in the lineup from time to time but always, always have core models in stock and ready to shop.

You should be able to buy a new sunburst Les Paul Standard with a reasonable amount of figure in the top any day of the week, for a very reasonable price. Or any other core Gibson model.

I would have paid good money to have the privelege of driving that excavator. The Fireturd X was a big stinking turd sitting on top of Gibson's already heavily stained and damaged reputation.

Gibson seems to be doing great from where I’m sitting? New lineup looks good, they own a great amp company now, what’s not to like? The three that I have are my favorite guitars. By quite a wide margin.

Ok Axe, tell us about the new Gibson that you wish they would make.
What would it look like, and what features would it have?
Maybe their R&D guys are here trolling for ideas...

No one wants them to evolve. They are stuck un the past. They will cry moan, and other things. A video will pop up and someone will say Gibson changed the headstock, neck width, added a volute, and a coil split. So in my humble opinion Gibson has lost their way. Again. We want none of that. Some do not like a Strat but want a LP to sound like a Strat.

No. Then a Strat or the sound is not for them. They want a LP to coil split and sound like a Strat no. That is wrong and nasty. They clearly do not know what Gibson did in the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. They are miss informed. If they truly knew what Gibson did as a company they would not want any of that sh*t.

The new Gibson Modern sucks. The new Gibson V sucks. The wired odd ball Norlin Guitars sucks. The wild colors and one offs suck. Like the Crayola Guitar one off sucks. They are other company's doing those things and they are wrong too. A single cut must be a LP copy. They go on and on.

The other group of people want new stuff and new specs. They are a thread right now on Gibson some place. They are arguing if the historic guitars are accurate to the olden days. Some go to the old Fender building and cry that Leo Fender once made guitars at that place.

Both sides of the coin will fuss and fight over who is right. Most hate change. And cry. Send nasty e-mails. Tell Gibson employs off, and start a boycott when they do not get what they want. A person started one now because of quality issues on Facebook and cried about it on a Forum.

Some Epiphone players say my Epiphone is better than a Gibson in quality. And Epiphone runs the company better than Gibson. But Gibson tells Epiphone what to do. They do not understand that relationship at all. A Gibson worker goes and visit the China factory and see's for himself what's happing. When they changed the headstock on the Epiphone they cried. And hated it. When the Epiphone Casino was going to be made in America and they said no thanks. My China one and the ones made in China will be much better quality.

So all guitar player do is complain and whine when anything they do not like happens. So Gibson does what most players want. Because they live in the past.:eek::blah::nuts::orly:

However crappy those Firebirds may be (I've never actually sat down and properly played one), that's just a shame. I mean, the pots, jacks, knobs, tuners, jackplates, strap pins, etc were probably 'fine'. Before just destroying them, why not uhm... hand them out for free? Give 'em to those metal heads that like to smash instruments at the end of a show. I know I would have walked over afterwards and snagged a few parts...

If you have a Firebird that you would like to destroy, send it to me. I'll cover the shipping and pop a few tenners on top for the trouble.

    Norlin is vintage now.

IMO, Norlin dropped the ball but, once upon a time, dealer told us Norlin sucked.............now, Norlin is wonderful.

    PT Barnum would be proud.

Why give up something for free in a market of money makers?

I have over 20 Gibson guitars.

It used to be over 40 Gibson guitars.

They were expensive when I acquired them but are a fortune to keep......so, I sold a lot of them.

Gibson can make the best guitar in the world and the worst.

Our job, find and acquire the best for cheap in today's market.

If you have nothing positive to discuss, then it's just another one of your people suck, complaining about anything threads...
The topic is getting old, and you wonder about getting marked for ignore.

I thought this was about why there's nothing new from Gibson?
    Focus Axe, stay on topic.

Marshall has been a bit more successful at establishing themselves as a "lifestyle brand" than Gibson was, but they're still not up there with Harley-Davidson.
