Saw this advertised in Philly CL this morning. 12 bucks, custom made! Are you tired of accidentally switching pickups? You must remove plastic tip in order for this to work!

 Thought this was odd. LOL

I'm not really a Strat guy, but I never knew this was a problem.
BTW, I'll make you some for $10 each - free shipping!

Needs a duct taped ziptie to attach your trem bar for full points.

    Wait... That's an issue?

Sounds like a problem of sloppy technique, I've been playing Strats for over 18 years and never had this problem.

The answer to the blade switch:

    Who remembers this?

1983/1984 Fender ELITE Stratocaster out of the Elite series. (P-Bass, two versions, Strat, Tele) Active pickups, and for the Strat, three pushbuttons.

I've owned four Elites. Two Strats and two Precision Elite II basses.

They were fantastic instruments. If I were more of a bass player I'd still have at least one of the basses.

Oddly, all four were in two finishes. 3 color sunburst, and Wild Cherry burst. I had one bass in Wild Cherry, and one strat in Wild Cherry, and one bass in 3 color sunburst, and one strat in 3 color sunburst. But I never had the same finishes at the same time. Never had the Wild Cherry pair.

I got rid of the Strats for the same reason I always get rid of Strats: I can't get along with single coil tone in overdrive. It just never works.

Clean sounded fabulous...but I don't play clean very much. Even then I have to say I prefer the beefier tone of humbuckers.

The pushbutton switching worked well but you really had to practice to become adept at getting the pickup combination you wanted in a hurry.

It gave you two pickup options you don't usually get in a strat. All pickups on, and outer two pickups on. But you can mute the guitar without rolling down the volume knob, which could be useful.

As far as I'm concerned they were the finest Fenders ever made. They trade for reasonable prices. But I only ever had any interest in the ones with rosewood or ebony fingerboards, because I hate maple boards.

If anyone is interested, GFS sells pickguards and wiring kits to convert a Strat to Brian May switching with on/off & phase switches for each pickup (MV/MT). I used the wiring kit on my BMRS clone build.

They also have wiring kits for just 3 mini toggles that would do the same thing as the 3 button.
