    Hi

I was wondering if anyone can help with some details about my amp and possible contacts at Marshall for amp history, I would be very grateful for any help.

In 2007 I had the opportunity to buy one Gary Moore's amps from GAK in Brighton, I cheekily asked for the shop to arrange for him to sign it to seal the deal, there were 2 available so I chose the one with pencil markings.

For most of the last 12 years I have had the amp stored away but now I want to try to find as much detail as possible about the amp to tell it's story.

What I was told when I bought it:

    It's a 1984 Jcm 800 Super Lead 100 Watt 1959 MkII.

    Serviced and maintained by Marshall.

Modded for extra gain by Marshall.

It was used as part of a 3 amp stage set up for tours in the mid to late 80's, including in support of the After The War album.

It has pencil markings for settings and the number 2 and R in marker pen.

I contacted Marshall by email a week or so ago but so far no reply, does anyone know whether they would hold details of modifications they made to individual amps?

My amp also has an effect loop, were some of these models made as standard with a loop or would this be another modification made? It has neat pen labelling which makes me think it wasn't standard. I will try to upload some pictures.

Many Thanks for taking time to read my post.

    Barry

Marshall are generally good with their customer service by mail but you can imagine they have a lot of email to get though. If you were take it there, you'll be gauranteed a good reception.

A 1984 amp would not have an effects loop as standard.

These threads usually precede the amp appearing on ebay!

Thank you for your reply and info.

I would love to take it Milton Keynes would that be something I would have to make an appointment for?

Haha I know what you mean about ebay but no not in this case, I've had the amp stored away until a few weeks a back when a friend who knew I had it mentioned it to me which prompted me to look at it (It was actually 12 years to the day that I bought it).

I had posted details about it on the Gary Moore fan club website back when I bought it (which no longer exists), the shop I bought it from no longer has staff dating back to that time either, I don't want the info to be lost if that makes sense.

    Thanks

    Barry

If you're within driving distance, it seems it's best to go to the original people that made your amp. Ive heard they're actually affordable if parts needs to replaced. They maybe know some info on your amp.

If you are planning on using it, I would book it in for a service (over the phone) and explain the situation. They are very friendly and might be able to suggest who you can speak to about it when you get there.

Thanks To you both, I'm planning on testing it when I can fet access to a cab again, but good idea I had it serviced in 2010 ish but hardly used it since, I would gladly take it down it's about a 2 hour drive.

Just seen they replied asking for photos to identify any modifications but haven't got much records from that era.

As already said I've found the factory both very helpful and reasonably priced. Make it clear what you want when to phone them though. Also ask for the tour which is free and informative

    @dangerousbaz - that's bang tidy.

You say " take it down it's about a 2 hour drive "
I am about 2hr30min north of MK - a dozen miles south of Grimsby - and I have a 4x12 and an old Les Paul and would love to play through one of G's old boxes. Here's my old girl and her younger friend before she was sold... if her friend looks familiar, you will understand my interest.
