As some of you might have seen, I scored a 4010 the other day. It came with mentioned speaker, and I really don't like it.. sounds a lot like a V30 which I don't like either, so I thought I'd put it up for sale. I just want to know that it is what it is supposed to be. (So I don't advertise it falsely)
It has a aluminum dustcap(that someone painted black) and that surprised me.. is this correct for this speaker? Have a look at the pics and tell me what you see...

    Thanks

Looking for something I don't remember what.
G12H-30 Blackback made April 6th, 1976. Kurt Mueller 1777 lead (75htz) cone. Ali dust cap is correct. 30 watt speaker in a 50 watt Marshall combo? I would say it's lucky it's working at all, let alone sounding any good....Original owner probably used it with an extension cab all the time to keep from blowing the speaker.
    Dustcap centre was black originally.

    Thank you...
.. no, it doesn't sound good in there... it has that ear fatigue high mid/ "empty" low mids, I associate with V30,( which I REALLY don't like.).. so I'll try to trade it for either old g12t75 ( my favorite) or a g12t65, which I think we'll be better in this amp..
I just wasn't sure about that aluminium dustcap...

... am i crazy considering a Redback?... in the clips I've heard it seem too sitt somewhere between a g12t75 and a greenback... somewhat where a g12t65 would be, but with enough power handing to take a 100 water with ease...
(I have a g12t75 loaded 1912 where it should fit just fine if I swap them if it doesn't work...?...)

Just an update and a thanks for the help/ suggestion
I bought a G12-65 for the amp. At first I didn't like it at all. Harsh high mid and no treble... but I decided I wouldn't give up on it until broken in. So I put it in the shipping box, no baffle and ran radio at roughly 15 watts through it for a few hours... now it sounds great... it's actually hard to believe the difference it made but there you go... again, thanks for the help and suggestion.

... but I would like to get a better understanding of the difference the parts of s speaker make...I have three speakers using the 1777 cone. Two use the same magnet and dustcup. One is bigger magnet and different dustcup. They all sound radically different...

Good job on scoring a G12-65 for your Marshall combo, perfect combo speaker, IMHO.

And BTW, if you replace the Aluminum dustcap with a normal Marshall dustcap then you could have a seriously good speaker.

I've been thinking about the dust cap but I'll try sell it first. I have no use for it and I dont like have things laying around with no use for...
