Friend wants to sell me his 1987x ? Or is the SC20H better choice?

What year is the amp, does it have an FX loop? Early reissues did not have an FX loop.

I agree, if he could get his hands on a good attenuator, trying the amp out at higher volume settings is the way to go.

The head is only maybe 2 +years old. I remember when he got it.
He just never bonded with it, because it differs from his old original ones 87. He was comparing , and he already had his mind made up that he wasnt gonna like it, so it doesnt get played. If this head has 20 hours on it, Id be surprised.
Its a score either way,...mint for resale, or grow into it...or move to the country so i can play it. Im sure that I can purchase a powerbrake or thd from him for $200< He has some serious sh!t like most of you guys have, like a flippin high end music store in his mantown, true vintage to the latest and greatest. Its always fun to get the call to come by and check this out. We've been great friends for 35 + years,.... youd think that Id be a much better player just from hanging around for so long, and being the test dummy for his new gear.
Im leaning more toward 87x today, than yesterday.
    Damn it you guys !

Sounds like he needs to join the fellowship.
    Resistance is futile.

    Hes anti-web bigtime. Kinda
His wife wont allow the web. But instead hes permitted to collect-vintage motorcycles- corvettes and guitars !
Im sorta glad hes not on here.lol
Cause if anyones gonna soften him up on his 1984 jcm 800 its gonna be me.:D Im nearly the godfather to that amp.

Maybe this weekend I'll go shake him down for a thd/87x as a package deal....................on the cuff :)
    :naughty:

If you're gonna go for an attenuator, please don't make it a THD, worst attenuator I've ever used, and it was with a 1987x.

Youre not the first one to state that.
    The powerbrake a better choice?

If I got an amp like that, I'd build the @JohnH one.
    (my 100w is MV)

My experience with the Power Brake (have 2 of them), is that they need a minor modification to sound their best. Without that mod, they can get a little flubby in the low end. The Weber Mass 200 works great "as is", but is about the same as a modded Power Brake. Either are better than a Hotplate (IMO).

TheMFers have quoted stats, time to close the deal.
No reasonable argument against the plexi purchase has been made in this thread. Get the Plexi , eat the cake

I once sold a kick ass epoxy long board to a buddy for a great deal who later flipped it. I was pissed
In this case, buddy offers friend a great deal with payment plan, a great amp stays in family in event new owner dosnt like it he should have first dibs on buying it back for selling price
Its the bro code , page 13 chapter 1
    Lol
