Thats a steal deal
I got mine for 1200$ two years ago
My favorite amp. Nothing bad about it
Went back and reread the OP post. I thought he said JVM.
He said MV. My mistake
The only bad review is yet to come, hopefully it won’t be you in a few years complaining how you should have bought it
Just out of curiosity how many dbs are we talking with a 1987x to get to the desired cranked Marshall tone we love out of one of these?
great sounding amp...yeahhh
The amp sounds great- super loud and crispy bright.
Angus all the way , sharp and cutting. i almost sounded like angus for a parsec.
I also like an amp with a good return if i ever decided to get rid of it in the future.
So what are we talking $ to have a tech toss a mv in /on it?
I know this head was $ 2500 +new.
So where are you guys finding mint 1987x heads for $ 1000? Not seeing that anywhere on line.
More like $1800 -2600.
I appreciate the feedback guys. Everyone has great points.....practical too.
Here's the Reverb sales history - not wakadoodle listing prices.
$1500 is not bad.
If your buddy would cut you some slack to save the hassle of selling elsewhere, all the better.
You could flip it quick if you needed to.
I just found the button to edit the title.
6 months into MF and Im still learning to navigate.
So $ 1500 is decent price for a jewel 1987x.
Honestly , I would even haggle, because he would load it in my truck and say pay me whenever. Thats worth not having to go into hock to snatch up a good bargain
"Borrow" it for a week.
You'll know by then if you want it or not.
If you let it go, and then change your mind, you might never get that deal again...
Why in the world have you not grabbed it yet ???
Doing the research my brother.
I can be quite impulsive, if i dont think things through.
Hes not listing it to sell. I inquired when i saw him the other day, when i played it briefly. He was softening me up to buy it. He has like 10 iconic Marshalls from every era...like you ampaholics. He also has big $ to play with, so its all novelty for him as a retired local musician. So jumping on it before someone else snatches isnt at all nec'. A no pressure transaction if you will. Ive been really leaning toward getting it, but I have to iron some other things out first, before the years end. Now that I know a MV can be installed, it makes it all the more tempting.
Not trying to rush ya bro . I have been jonesing for one of those for some time .
I personally wouldn't mod a non-master amp by adding a master volume. Been there, done that, a couple of times. Adding a master volume changes the amp into, wait for it..... a master volume amp. I've had both over the years, and a non-master amp through a "good" attenuator beats a master volume mod (IMO). When one finds themselves thinking about how to mod an amp into something they'd like, before they even have the amp, it's a good sign that it's not the right amp. If a master volume amp is the goal, I'd get a good master volume amp, like a 2203x. Just my opinion of course. You also mentioned the SC20 which is a good 20w master volume amp, but not on the same level.
I never really thought that Id want a plexi,......im second guessing that now.
Try it out. Sounds like he would let you. Does he have an attenuator you can try with it? Best way to know
Knowing the difference between the amps (circuits) would present an easy choice. It is actually a one-up that the 1987 is a 1987X. Buy this now, then the SC later. That is my affirmative recommendation. Thank us later.
Step 1. We admitted we were powerless over - wait, that's those other guys I hang out with.
