After one year and half of changing amps and trying to sell what I already had: first a Mini Silver Jubilee that I despised and secondly an Orange TH30 that although it was a good amp for what it did, it was not the sound I always had in my head.
So, after many tries I saw in the local marketplace that a guy posted a JCM 800 2203 reissue (i prefer the reissue than the vintage, cause of the fx loop and not the +40 years of use), for only 900 euros! While new in Thomann is like 1700.
So I did what every sane man would do: I lowered the price of my Orange from 800 to 600 (new is 1200) and it got sold the same day lol. I went straight to the guy with the Marshall and i bought it.

Couldn't be happier with an amp. Finally I got my dream amp and it is a freaking beast. It is exactly what it comes to my mind when I hear the word Marshall. And it goes so well with pedals as well. I love the low input as well, did not expect to be so good. I can see myself playing there some 60s early 70s southern rock stuff.

The high input with a Boss SD-1 is instant classic heavy metal sound, it nails the sound of Mercyful Fate.
I also use a modified Boss Metalzone (tore out a transistor and it makes it smoother) as a boost for extreme metal (mainly black and death).

Now I wanna buy classic pedals that go well with the 800.

My list is like this feel free to add what other pedal should I buy ( i need a fuzz):

    MXR Distortion+ (vintage or new?)

MXR Wylde Overdrive (this or the berzerker overdrive?)

    Maxon OD-808

    or

    Ibanez Tube Screamer

Here is a pic with my Les Paul/

PS: My dad told me years ago that all you need is a Gibson Les Paul, a Fender Stratocaster and a Marshall JCM 800. Now one year exactly after his death I bought the Marshall JCM 800 and thus I have all three now. The prophecy has been fulfilled.

PS 2: Why the freaking Huawei MI8 puts its tag on the photos? 107569368_598528284427969_7665382371686178706_n.jpg

Hey man!!! Great gear you have. Your dad knew about good stuf.

Can’t help you with the pedals, but I guess any of these will get you great tones.

Perhaps a Klon clone? I really like my MXR Sugar Drive and the guys who know the Klone market seems to think it's good too.

Congratulations man! I just retubed and biased mine and played it on thursday at the rehearsal space and let me tell you: your dad was a wise man! Proper LP or Strat, a boost pedal and you can do everything you need and then some :)

I found that the Boss SD-1 works best when using humbuckers or when you need a tight and gnarly rhythm tone, for singlecoils or warmer lead tones I would recommend a Tubescreamer, no matter what brand. The 800 reacts differently to the asymmetrical vs symmetrical clipping. Sounds good with both.

No need to go boutique or spend boatloads of cash; I tried a lot of OD pedals and always end up back with either the SD-1 or the TS-9. It seems like they were made to be played with the 2203 :D

How do you like the FX loop on yours? I'd love to have one on mine but I'm not modding a stock 1982 model. I'd rather buy a reissue or build a clone and install the Metropolous Zero Loss FX loop

Congrats! I've had an 83'2204 and now a vertical input 84' 2204. I've been where your at now with pedals. So I've got a ton of different types of classic pedals and clones of those so if you ever want to know about any don't hesitate to ask me.I almost use mine as a pedal platform in that it accepts so many of them well and if a pedal dosen't work with the high input it usually alway's does with the lower.By itself my lower input has hardly any volume unless it's near 8-10 in volume. What specifically are you looking to play so you can get some better suggestions? Nice guitar by the way ,what year?

Also think about getting some reverb. Reverb makes everything sound better.

yea, I have a Maxon OD-9, and a JCM800 2203 and they go together quite well

Yea, imagine drilling holes in an original 1982 model?

Always good to hear when someone acquires a 2203. Play it loud.
