Yep, it's another "what's your favorite speaker" thread. I need to put 16 ohm speakers in each of my 1x12 cabs. One's an EVH, the other is a Laney, which has a deeper sound than the EVH. I love the Vintage 30/G12H-30 pair in my 2x12 cab. But I'd like to get speakers for the 1x12's that'll work well either on their own, or if I run both 1x12's together. What do you guys think?
MC-90 is pretty nice and has enough wattage to be used with almost anything if you don't get too crazy
I would not argue with the creamback suggestion (either one) , I have an Emminence GB128 that sounds pretty awesome in a closed back cab I have. ( my current fave in a 1x12 closed back cab is the V 30 as of yesterday) BTW
I have eminence patriot Texas heats in my twin and I like them, but for more a Marshall sound I’d go G12-65 personally.
Right now, I have 8 ohm speakers in them. A G12H-80 in the Laney isn't too bad. A WGS ET65 in the EVH that just seems very brittle. But I want to put 16 ohm speakers in them, so I have the option of running them together with my amps. I think I'm going to put the 8 ohm ET65 back in my DSL40. It worked fine in that, maybe since it's open back.
After thinking about how I can reconfigure the speakers that I already have, I'm considering this. Let me know what you guys think. 8 ohm Veteran 30/ET65 pair in my 2x12 (WGS consistently recommends this pairing). 16 ohm Vintage 30 and G12H-30 Anniversary in the Laney and EVH 1x12's respectively. 8 ohm Avatar Hellatone 30 in my DSL40 combo.
You might investigate the Eminence Legends as well. I've been very impressed being a very old Celestion advocate. https://www.marshallforum.com/threads/celestion-v30-vs-legend-eminence-v12.24190/
Crazy! I swapped out the 16 ohm V30 and G12H-30 in my 2x12 for the 8 ohm Vet 30 and Hellatone 30 (which are essentially the same speakers). Now the 2x12 lost a lot of its clarity and bite. The lows and warmth are still there though. It's like that "blanket over the cab" sound, compared to the V30/G12H-30 pair.
