Green Channel, Crunch mode, 'nuff said!
Exactly! A DSL on the green channel is an 800 but more "modern" which to my ear is more harmonics, but don't quote me on that. I'd use an 800 in a cover band for lots of my favorite 1980's bands, but for "modern" metal style the DSL on both channels is a better choice, at least for me.
BTW an Ibanaz Tube Screamer on the crunch channel is a nice midpoint between the green and red channels.
i need to get my hands on a real tube screamer or maxon od808 then.
this bad monkey just adds grit imo, not a warm overdrive.
this boss od-2 is good but i know a tube screamer is a step up.
I have a TS808 and it's pretty awesome. I also have a MXR GT-OD and I actually like that better. a little more gain, doesn't cut as much bass out. Wider EQ but still has screaming leads and nice harmonics.
This guy does an ok video on the GT OD. I don't use it as crazy as he does by cranking the gain full out, Just crank the volume. But kind of shows what it can do. I also have the tone rolled back further then he does. A Tubescreamer type pedal is what you want though for the green channel IMO.
after getting the chance to play with it for a bit around 4-5 volume wise with the crunch engaged and gain maxed it is actually around 8 on lead 1 and it sounds Awesome....i'll try to make a vid in a day or two
the 2203 has more gain than any setting in the green channel on the dsl.
alot more gain or just like 10-20%
sounded too good to be true.
i guarantee you my green channel has more gain
basically the conclusion im forming is there nearly the same gain, 800 may sound a little more hairy and have a tad more gain.
Yes, the truth is that the green channel in crunch mode and a 2203/2204 are pretty much neck and neck. A tad more distortion on the 800 series but that's it. Stock vs. Stock, with the same guitar, get the mods in there and we can get all over the place.
i made a vid but its to shitty to post.........i need a good mike
here it is anyway......again shitty but tons of gain for a green channel....lead1 and crunch gain maxed
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v19xUxORxF8]YouTube - shitty Fucking vidvid[/ame]
Simply using a compressor on your green channel will kick your green gain from John Cougar /old ACDC gains into the Kiss GnR territory, seriously!
It also launches your Lead 2 (I used the unmodded lead 2 since it seems to have the same full tonal characteristics as the green crunch thus the channel EQ'ing matches up better) into metal range tho feedback can become a problem if your compression is set to high.
I used a Diamond Compressor
I'll try and post something before monday since I have 2 gigs this weekend.
But these go to 11
on the serious side no pedal is needed on my green......they are also a lot closer together tone wise after some mods
here is another clip.....still shitty but at least its not clipping to all Fuck
+1 to Ken, I think you should try a tube screamer of sorts. I got a kit from BYOC - The World's Finest DIY Guitar Effects Kits that is an exact clone of the original and it sounds great on my green channel.
so no boost? modded you say?
thanks for all the posts and videos. yeah i can hear the potential in the green channel its got alot of power and bass behind it. i guess im just so used to the lead channel 1 on 8 gain, so when i switch to the green/crunch on 10 it doesnt even sound saturated with gain, just big and i want more compression in the gain i guess, like the other poster had mentioned. ill try that more.
After playing my new one (2003 actually) I have to agree. The red channel really doesn't need much for mods. The green channel could really use it to be compatable with the Red...
