I just purchased a DSL 5, I didnt realize it was made in China, So far thats the only problem I have, Now mind you, Im not a rock-god, just getting back into playing after raising my kids, nearing retirement. AS far as a practice amp, I think its great. YOu cant get the famous marshall 50 watt sound though. I did have a marshall DSL 2000 years back, I started to play again, and went out and purchased some good stuff I never could afford before. It was a great sounding amp when you could turn it up, AT the time, My home was in the country area and had lots of land so I didnt have to worry about my neighbors. Now, I live in the city and cant crank it up. Besides the fact, that after 10 minutes of playing you would get bored hearing me. So I want to find a practice amp , Marshall is the sound i like, I like tube amps and hate computer generated BS. I never was a Pedal guy, but I think I will have to put one on my dsl5, it does have the loop jack. Anyone has a suggestion for one? I m happy with my rytium sound. I want a nice lead sound, The dsl5 just doesnt get there like my 50 watt did when it was cranked up. Please give me any ideas? I appreciate all your wisdom and comments.

New to this forum, and just a novius guitarist. When I started playing around 11 and stuck hard and strung untill about 21. I learned one thing, I like to express to all you guys that think your the next rock-god. Find a loyal band and stick with one. your go farther. I met some awesome players in my life. Now its 35 years later. all those same awesome guitarist are still playing the same old clubs ,etc. Living in studio apartments, eating Mac and cheese. The point is, it takes something more than being the best. I for one, was a great song writer, I couldnt sing. Nor did I have an interest in playing others peoples stuff. But looking at where I wanted to be, I ended up learning a career and selling my stuff,(big mistake). But you cant serve two gods. Now Im getting back into jamming, I dont care to be the best and the pressure isnt there anymore. Im not super rich, but I am comfortable.

Correction: I am basing my thought of being made in China for the fact that the "CE" symbol is on the amp and box, etc. I just assumed it was made in china.

I was actually looking at this amp on the weekend. Walked out with a TU-3 (which is why I was there), but I am on the hunt for a 5W or smaller tube amp.

Will be interested to see how you get on with this amp as its on my list. I do need to sit down and play it though.

They are as far as I know. They have their own factory there,...at least they did unless something has changed recently.

I'm not implying the common westerner misconception that Asian nations are all the same. There are vast differences among the various Asian nations. For example, the Japanese language has nothing in common with any other language on the planet. It is totally unique.

Jeff,

I think the issue is that your DSL5 is a combo, at least I've never heard them making a head version. If they did I'd get one.

I have the DSL1HR, and I play it through a 4x10 and it sounds awesome. I have a DSL100 1/2 stack and a lot of other tube amps and I love this little guy.

If you can't get the 4x10 because of loudness or size or money, that sucks. But if you can, try to take your amp with you to get a 4x10 that works with your amp. Not all speakers and cabs sound the same.

I like the lead tones from the DSL5, but when I want to boost things a bit I use a fuzz pedal. I run fuzz, chorus, reverb, and delay. And a looper.

Thank you for the input and taking the time to respond, I look into it.
