I’ve a pair of V types coming tomorrow so will do a recording on my phone and report my impression on here. They seem more neutral allowing you to dial in your own tone… let’s see how it goes.

Verdict… Get the V types!!! So much more well defined crunch. I’ll post a couple of short vids later and you’ll see how much thinner a fizzier the stock speakers sound. So the 402 + 2 x V types comes in less than the 40cr 💪🤘👍👌

I would be very interested in those videos. I am pretty happy with the stock OEM speakers, but want to see anything that might be even better.

also would you be able to weigh one of the old OEM speakers?

Will try to get them on here in the morning. Interestingly, the stock speakers actually sound fantastic if you have nothing to compare them to but when I listen to my recording and go from the one with the V types tones he stock, they sound so much thinner. Anyway, will weight one for you too 👍

So my 2nd DSL402 arrives on Wednesday. That will be the one that gets modded. Does anyone have suggestions?
I could replace both speakers with neodymium speakers but I cant see it shaving much weight.
Shall I try a 15"?
2x10s?
3x10s?
small tweeters/horns?
Also could the preamp valves be changed for less gain response as all I want is clean tones.

Short clips of my first attempt at Mr Crowley. I'm attempting to make a YouTube video and linking here. I'm actually now thinking of sticking some G12M greenbacks in having watched hundreds of Zilla cabs vids on YouTube but hey (there may be some very fresh V types for sale soon :D)

Let me know your thoughts...

I am surprised by the underwhelming reception of the big news in this thread. A DSL40CR in a 2x12” configuration is a dream come true, but instead of focusing on the great news, people are already dissecting convoluted schemes on how to make the amp lighter. It’s a 2x12”. It is going to be a heavy sucker. That’s just the way it is. But the 2x12” configuration would be totally worth the extra weight.

The box weight says 27.5kg but they‘re just a tad lighter (by way of power cord, footswitch and box/gubbins). So around 25kg. There - saved weight already!

It is, by report, actually a little lighter than the 1x12! And the OEM speakers are part of the reason why. And for me, a Marshall newbie, they sound just fine currently, better than my 1x12 OEM amp with a Vintage 30 in.
But I might one day want to/be able to afford to swap them out for branded speakers. I am interested in what they weigh only so that I don't add much to much weight when choosing what to replace them with.
