Following up from my last thread... Much to my surprise, Mrs. Claus’s gift to me this year did actually show up despite the North Pole (located in Mississippi near Memphis, TN) outsourcing the delivery to Krampus's demons (driving for FedEx). I consider myself lucky, as the box does not appear to have suffered any long falls off of a bridge into a ravine in Blount County, Alabama - apparently, the disgruntled perp made 6 dumps over the course of several nights affecting over 450 customers. I work in a hospital, and a rep told me the other day the fiasco has delayed some medical supplies. Very uncool. Still, my Epiphone Les Paul Special is here! It has some goofiness to the finish (there's a massive paint run on the cutaway) and the fretboard binding (which looks like the end closes the headstock got kinda chewed up before application), but otherwise is in absolutely stellar playing - and sounding - condition. That neck is a royal chonk - 50's profile; I believe it. It's not a complete baseball bat, but it's definitely thicker than the slim 70's profile of my Gibson SG Special. Feels good in the hand. Pickups sound throaty and meaty, as all P90s should. Wiring looks great; it does use the quick connectors, which is fine by me. Needs a good fretboard oiling, a fresh set of strings, and a proper setup; and I might be sanding down the neck to a smooth satin. Sadly, that will not happen until after Christmas Day. Back in the box it goes, ready to be re-opened on Christmas. It's gonna be hard not to sneak this one out - I mean, the tones I'm getting out of it are already worthy of the Naughty List.
