I think I don't want a Friedman or a Victory or any kind of Marshall clone, they all seem to lack the balls and rawness of the marshall.

I like the 2203/2204, but I really want some sort of clean channel and having a master volume is convenient as well, I will buy an attenuator/reactive-load, but the 2204/2203 might be too loud for me even with an attenuator.

However I wonder if there is a Marshall with at least 2203/2204 amounts of gain that has better cleans than a DSL50?

    thx

Forget better cleans and get a SC20. It has a master volume, and is basically a little 2203x. You can go from nice heavy overdrive to nice clean tones by rolling the guitar volume back. Not squeaky cleans, but those are a bit sterile and boring (IMO).

Where does your impression of the DSL50 clean sound come from? And what type of clean sound are you looking for?

Do it up! My DSL50 head is one of the best amps I own. I can get pretty great tones at bedroom level through my 2x12. Spanky cleans and creamy crunch. To balance the channels out, I use an MXR 10 band

What else do you already have? Whats your budget? If you need a channel switching amp that does clean and dirty the DSL50 certainly would be a contender if you like DSL tone, the price on them certainly makes it easy to get into one. :yesway:

Then I'd get your DSL, or look for a used 6100. Also, you can easily play a 2203x without an attenuator, you just won't be able to turn it up past 1 or 2 for home playing, at least for very long.

Dsl 50 or jvm 4-10. My dsl50h puts a smile on my face every time I fire it up.

2203/2204 - no need for a clean channel...turn guitar volume down some, viola!

DSL's are great, and so are the JVM's.
I just use my DSL15C (V30) as grab and go, and a JVM210H (2xV30 cab)

DSL50's are pretty versatile. I love mine. They cover a lot of ground tonewise.

I use primarily a DSL 50 with a ClassicTone choke added.
I don't use a lot of clean sounds. But I hear nothing wrong with them on the DSL 50.
Thinking at some point I'd like a 2204 clone myself just because. Back in the day, I used a 2204 with an Ibanez UE-405 in front. Used the Parametric as a boost. Clean? Parametric off and roll down the volume knob. Pristine? Nope. Who cares?

Yep, all you have to do is compromise your compromise.
