I don't think metal ever died. It evolved and is still evolving to this day.

The LA scene died, but it had just run it's course maybe?

Grunge brought big riffs to dis-affected youths and music lovers around the world, but at the same time metal bands like Pantera where progressing metal in a much more brutal form than what had happened in LA.

Grunge bands like Tool, The Pixies and Pearl Jam are still making music and drawing crowds. The legacy of the grunge movement lives on today in a more underground/alternative environment.

And the Cure's first album "Three Imaginary Boys" had it's feet deeply planted in the British punk movement, which then moved into the first Goth music with it's next 2 albums "Seventeen Seconds" and "Faith", which besides "Disintegration" was by far their best work.

    Peace

I’m with Vin. EDM is absolute garbage and should be banned and all evidence of its existence should be erased.

In that time of late 80’s up until Early 90’s the so called death of metal by grunge

Dime and Zack Wylde ruled guitar player magazine polls. Once Metallica got a Grammy it went down from there but metal never died it just receded back to darkness from which it came.
Underground . No more limelight . Glam kind of helped the demise , many things “planets” aligned. Radio choked It , spinal tap made it funny but it never died .
