Never seen this. He kinda seems cocky? Lucky no one died. And ...that poor vintage Marshall head! :scream:

Legendary meltdown. I'd love to know what happened to that Major head. I bet somebody made off with it. Depending on how it landed, it might have survived with a bent chassis due to the inertia of the transformers vs. the chassis, or it could have been muc worse.

But what a relic to have, if you had it!

Ritchie telling the story, he says he threw the guitar but the video clearly reflects otherwise.

    I'm a fan.

    Blackmore is an odd one.

    I saw Rainbow 2x.

The first time with Ronnie James Dio and Blackmore was inredibly good.

The second time with Graham Bonnet and they should have paid me to sit through their crap.

Blackmore was clearly upset and didn't play well.

I saw Blackmore with Deep Purple.

    Winger opened for them.

    Reb Beach was really good.

    With Purple, Blackmore shined.

I think Beach lit a fire with Blackmore.

    Jaw dropping.

Ritchie Blackmore plays well when he wants to.

On a good night, Blackmore is incredible.

Random people on the Internet keep bashing him and compare him to modern 'shredders' (<-one of my most hated terms to describe a guitarist).
I really don't care for his personality- since I don't want to marry him:rofl:
What he has done musically- for me he's one of the best.
He seamlessly combines simple and complex Riffs, his solos show Emotions and Technique in equal measures.
    I'm a Fan too.

:shrug:As I have said... he might be a Dick
I admire his playing, and his playing only. I don't care for his personality.

So it appears that the Marshall head that went overboard was a dummy. But the cabinets definitely had speakers in them. And no backs?

It was all staged. The speakers in those set on fire cabinets can be seen in some backstage pictures of that night. They appear to be of a different type than what Blackmore normally used. I guess they had no backs so the stuff they had put inside could be lit on fire.

Death will happen to some of us (he's pretty sure) but not all of us, some will get away with it. Now that is some seriously deep and meaningless $hit right there!!! :)

I'm not following. Are you saying he didn't throw the guitar?

He did. In the OP video, starting at 5:10 & to about 6:02, he does the deed. The actual throw into the audience, around 5:52...

at 6:03, he has another guitar...

At least three guitars went into the crowd that night. It appears that there was a bit of a tussle over one of them. I wonder who has them now?

    In the interview I
Did you watch the video I posted? He says he broke the guitar, lit it and threw it into the dummy amp that exploded.

oh, I didn't watch it (now), but have seen the interview before...

yeah, he had a mixed up recollection.

I've owned (video) copies of that concert since the early '80s. This actual video has been posted here quite a few x's, starting a thread & I've never really watched more than a couple seconds of it, because I have the video & knew what it's all about. This was to be his "Jimi at Monterey" moment, but bigger...
    ___

As far as throwing the head/cab off the stage into the crowd?

The crowd was separated by a security fence, as shown here:

There was probably no crowd for 15ft, from the stage. 10ft minimum...

    _____

speaking of Jimi at Monterey, a guy I used to talk to all the time, took one of the most infamous shots of that. Here's an article on it.
