Crate V58 - Anybody got one?

CRATE V58 OWNER'S MANUAL Pdf Download | ManualsLib

Been looking at one of these at the GC across town.
(how I wound up with the Class5H, actually)
It's been sitting there for a while, and I've been thinking of offering a lowball on it.
Another 2 x 12AX7 & EL84, 5 watter.
Just 3 knobs - gain, tone, volume.
Planning to tear it apart, surprise!
Wondering if anyone has an opinion before I drive an hour each way for nothing.

Never cared for mine. YMMV since you plan to tear it apart anyways.

I just couldn't get along with the crappy transitor sounding distortion it produced. Clean it was ok for pedals.

Now I really liked my VC20, VC30, and VC50 amps. The original ones before the digital effects.

Give it a spin, maybe you'll dig it.

I've been contemplating if I can fit the chassis in my homemade retro Crate micro stack.
Was hoping some tubes could replace the solid-state crappy transistor sounding distortion of the GX10...
Do you think a pair of 10" speakers would help the little fella?

Honestly I don't. There are some mods for the circuit which is supossed to smooth it out a little though.

When I said I didn't care for mine what I meant was I hated it. It's been sitting unused collecting dust in the garage for over a decade now. In fact I don't know how long since I fired it up. I'd rather forget I ever had it.

But maybe you'll like it!

I'll just bin the idea.
I've got the Crate relegated to my bench amp when I finish the man cave.

I saw in the other thread that it's only 5 miles to your GC. Who knows, maybe something else will catch your eye if you hate it as much as I did.

Well, it's at the one that's 20 miles away, and it's a nasty 20 mile drive.
Stuff at the one 5 miles away usually winds up in my house before I have a chance to think about it...
