I have not heard that. However, I have been working with Mark S there on an OT for my Egnater Tweaker 15 and at first he was very responsive to my emails, but now he hasn't responded in almost a week.
Well that really stinks. The problem I have is I emailed them asking which OT for my amp and he sent me the model and reseller reference (Tube Depot). I bought it and installed it only to find out it's not the right OT (it's a 6.6K primary and I need an 8K). Tube Depot won't exchange it since it's been installed, and Magnetic Components is not responding. Looks like they're be a 6.6K primary 4, 8, 16 ohm OT for sale online soon. Crap.
That would suck. Best bang for the buck no bullshit transformers out there. They've been in business for ever. Wonder why they're closing. Seems they have a pretty good rep and client base.
Same here. Sent emails too. Nothing. I bought an OT for a Tweaker 15 from Tube Depot that they recommended (40-18087) and it's the wrong one. It's a 6.6K primary and I need an 8K (didn't know the specs at the time as Egnater doesn't release them). Tube Depot won't take it back or exchange it. I'm trying to exchange it directly but no response. I then checked with Triode USA, the other ClassicTone reseller, and they said ClassicTone doesn't have a replacement for the Egnater Tweaker. WTF? Looks like I'm going to have to sell this one and buy the correct one from someone else.
I've read that they have shut down due to "Covid" issues, but no idea if it's permanent or "just until?" My guess is the we won't really know anything definitive about them and/or many other aspects of our lives until November 4, or so! Just My $.02, Gene
Well I called and left a message for a callback and I’ve tried two different ways to email magnetic components and classic tone through email and the links will not prompt. Doesn’t look good.
Here is hoping, they were/are a great company with a phenomenal product, it would be a shame to lose them.
I'm hearing the same thing over at The Gear Page. Still no response to my emails or voicemails. Going to have to write this one off.
Dave Friedman mentioned their closig on Tone-Talk because of Covid, and he said they were out of business.
Received an email today from Amp Parts Direct about Heyboer transformers in stock, that match up to previous ClassicTone part numbers, and a direct quote about ClassicTone going out of business. APD is offering the replacements that are made by Heyboer. Thought all of you builders might like to know this, I have no relations with APD other than being a prior customer.
I have a spare ClassicTone 50 watt power and output transformer on the shelf in reserve. I hope they bounce back. Always loved their iron.
