So I cruised by a guitarcenter today and snagged a bugera t5 for $100. I know, I know, it's a bugera, but it has a great clean tone. I ran it through a 2x12, even a 1x12, and this little guy is just too bassy/boomy (even with bass knob at 0) No fx loop so eq pedal in the front doesn't tone the amp just my guitar. I put in a mullard long plate and it helped a little, but does anyone have any suggestions for taming the bass?

Tubescreamer or eq pedal or both even better.

Yes... I kinda jumped the gun with the post.... I was trying it out with a mahogany explorer not very satisfying, but I busted out one of my strats and oh baby.... rolled off some db's @250hz and down... and it sounds great! I tried it with my OD's.... a '96 ts9... a '94 sd1... and a 1st gen Bbe Greenscreamer... Greenscreamer the hands down winner.... they get don't get enough love, but I like em....

I have one. My wife was ordering me some pedals a couple of years ago for Christmas and they were running a special on them so she got that for me too. I had some trouble with it at first. I threw my ideal OD pedals at it and it sounded pretty terrible. I thought the tubes may be cra p and they were. While trying a change I noticed that tube changes in that amp make a HUGE difference because it has a single 12AX7 and single EL84. I have a big tube caddy full of vintage glass and rolled bunch in it. I was stunned by how different they all sohnded. It was really fun. A long plate Slyvania won out over Mullard I63 & I61, Amperex, Telefunken, RCA, GE 5751 and a Raytheon black plate. It was a bit of a surprise. It came down to the Sylvania and a Matsushita Mullard and the Sylvania just sounded better in that amp. I tried it with a lot of pedals too. My favorite was a combination of a Musket fuzz and a CryBaby.

I threw in a mullard long plate and added a 150pf bright cap on volume pot and a 150pf bright cap on the gain pot... sounds great now

By putting on the middle lugs you mean one on the middle lug and the other to ground (or the 0K end of the pot? (asking for a friend ;) )
