Recently I've been on the hunt for a head and cabinet combo. At first I considered the Marshall DSL1HR and a Marshall Origin 4x12 Cabinet. Though, because I am using only in my house (not play live nor gig), I have come to the conclusion that a 2x12 cabinet will be a smarter choice. I'll buy the Harley Benton G212 Vintage which has 2 Vintage 30s from Celestion at almost the price of the speakers. However, I don't really know what head to pair it with. The Marshall that I was looking at is a no go, due to it being a only 16Ω amp and the cabinet is an 8Ω. The only other suitable amp that I found in the 200-300 euros (on Thomann) is the Bugera G5 Infinium which is only 211 euros and I have heard good reviews (have in mind that I will connect a TC Electronics Fangs Distortion in it). Would anyone recommend something else? Thanks in advance!!
I just answered your other thread. What kind of metal are you looking at? Plenty of people on this forum are most happy with NMV Marshalls at blazing volume or through attenuators. This will get you the classic metal tones. For modern metal you would need pedals on these amps. But if you are looking at buying an amp, try to get one that works with minimal (e.g. only boost/TS/SD1) pedals, as I prefer tube amp distortion over solid state distortion. Although for modern metal, there are some good options.
No Get one of those small Joyo bantamp heads or buy a used Marshall Valvestate Or a Bugera 6262 or 333XL used
Youre talking Euros so youre obviously overseas, look at Blackstar, Orange, Marshall, Vox. Comes to mind is the Orange Micro Dark Terror, very affordable. Blackstar makes a combo called the Studio 10, they make a metal version with kt88 power tubes, its brutal check it out and reasonably priced. I cant get on board with Bugera sorry. OK I just looked at your options and price range and that Bugera will be fine for what you need. Get your hands on a 2x12 so it sounds good.
It looks like you already have 'Metal' covered with the TC Fangs. So in theory you could use any amp. You seem to be only looking at low wattage tube heads. Can you say what you want from your new amp (i.e. not just 'Metal'). As others have suggested a 20W JOYO BantAmp Zombie would fit the 'Metal' requirements (sans Fangs). But they are fairly basic (less to go wrong?). The EQ is just one 'Tone' knob, no reverb, all controls are shared between the (foot-switchable) Clean and OD channels, the power amp is SS, and there is no Low Wattage mode (but the MV should take care of that). But you get a series FX loop, single tube preamp (i.e. hybrid), 8 ohm speaker jack, and Bluetooth-in to play along with tracks sent from your phone. Joyo Zombie – Thomann UK Joyo BantAmp Zombie - Mini Metal amplifier - YouTube The Orange Micro Dark is a similar hybrid 20W amp. It is probably a better build quality than the JOYO, but only has one channel, and no Bluetooth (if that's important to you). As you are able to use Thomann EU as a supplier, there are plenty of inexpensive 'All Tube' options. Tube Guitar Heads – Thomann UK
I would like to have more knobs to mess around with (XD) and also the Orange Dark Terror is like 25 euros cheaper I think than the bugera (or something like that)
Quote of the day (from video): "Last but not least, here we have the gain, which should always go on maximum, by the way..."
I have the G5 and IMO, it's a great little practice amp. It has tons of distortion on the Overdrive channel built in so don't see any problems getting into metal sounds, especially with a pedal in front. What actually surprised me most about this amp is the Clean channel. It sounds a lot better than what I was expecting from what I thought would be just a hard rocking amp.
I'm using the Bugera 112TS with stock Turbosound speaker. Here's a link for more info on it in case you're interested... Bugera | Downloads (bugera-amps.com)
I listen to a lot of Pantera, Metallica, Slipknot, Lamb of God. I also have a Tc Electronics Fangs Distortion already!
I was looking at the terror as well though I saw that Bugera and I think that for the price, with a 2x12 it could be a solid setup! Thinking about that Harley Benton G212 Vintage with the 2 Vintage 30s from celestion! Tell me your thoughts.
Honestly, for the price of the new G5 I'd get a used 333XL. I have one, three channel amp that does fantastic at bedroom volumes to flapping your pants. Bought mine used and it's in excellent shape. And it sounds great too. The 333XL is a copy of the Peavey JSX but it does metal too. It can get brutal.
For how much though I found the Bugera 333xl for 379 euros + 89 for shipping and the Bugera G5 is 211 euros. Theres a big difference. What site do you use for used gear?
