Do any of you guys play bass? I like playing bass more than guitar. I have two squier basses. A 4 string precision jazz and a 5 string jazz.

They are amazing basses for the price. I've had the PJ for 21 years. I've had the jazz for about a year.

I like 5 string more than 4. Why? More notes!

That extra low B string is like thunder!

    I've played bass forever...

I have something like 9 basses, 6 amp's, plus hundreds of bass amp's on my Kemper, & an Ampeg pre-amp...

My 5 string I have now, is a fretless. My 6 string is fretted. I like all my basses for different reasons. There are some things that I like about the low B string. Sometimes, I play something a bit different & it trips people out, because it's got that low growl when I go down there.

I've spent 99.9% of my 32 years playing 4 string. Playing in a rock group, w/ a 6 string slinger, 4 string cuts it mostly & guitarists like to do drop-D. Drop-D can be done on a 5 (or 6), but, it seems odd. I end up playing it like a 4 stringer, when I drop the D.

I like fretless, for a lot of things, because it's challenging, fun & you get those cello sounds, etc.

When playing guitar oriented rock, the low B string doesn't get much action. It does make for some more full percussiveness when I'm playing the normal, say, Am-G-F progression. I can use the B percussively, & because it's so low, it gives you a 5th to bounce off, making the rhythm more deep, even though you are playing a normal 4 string root notation...

Guitar is my main instrument but I do have a Squier Bronco short scale bass that I use for recording.
Don't have any bass amps, plug in direct to board.
I played double bass in junior high school, never played it after that though.

My bass amp is a 1x15" fender BXR 100

It has a 7 band EQ so you can get lots of tones out of it.

I have a BXR 200. Sounds good but the mighty JCM 800 Super Bass destroys it tone wise.

I started on bass ...at about 14
My oldest brother is an "official" bass player ...and I thought that would be of some advantage to me ,starting out .......I was wrong .But he's 9yrs older so we weren't really around each other a lot anyway .

    By 16 , I'd kinda switched to guitar / singin ....
In my late 20's I was workin in a guitar "repair/recycling" shop ...puttin together a few basses .That got me back into playin bass, been doing it since .
The cool thing about it is that Ive been able to be my own kind of bass player ,rather than a million pop/slap MFs ..who can't play a SONG . My brother kILLS at that sh*t
Im more into the Jamerson / Babbitt / Cox/ Ridley meat n taters style of bass
OR the McCartney / Lynott school of singing bass players

I like real oddball basses .My favorite is this '67 Danelectro

    I got a parts P. It's hard to fck up a p-bass.
Got a Classic Vibe Squier Jazz for $109 bucks at GC last year
    A '74 Gibson EB4L
I gave my brother a Gibson SB450 a couple years ago

    I like projects like this..

    Garage Guerrilla Madness

    Garage Guerrilla Madness

This was my 1st bass '77-78. I just did a setup on it when the quarantine started, new pots n jack .This thing sounds great !

    Amps
Ive had the same SVT rig ,1981 MTI/SLM whatever, for about 20 years
    Haven't used it in forever
Silverface Fender Bassman 135 an absolutely killer club bass head
I like using my Marshall Major PA ,2203 and 1959 for bass as well
Funny , my most regular bass gig ,I use a Peavey MkIII combo that I got for $100. Indestructible .
Iven been using this lately , Paid 80 bucks for the amp and 100 for the preamp

Our bass player in Europe has this jewel, we call it ,"The Football" ,like the briefcase that heads of state have handcuffed to their wrists with the nuke codes......

It's a great rock bass , pencil neck though

I changed the strings on my pj about a year ago. It still had the same strings on it from when I bought it 20 years ago lol (they still sounded good!) I wanted something brighter, so I got DR high beams. I love them!
