On Monday New Jersey’s Gov. Murphy signed into law a bill that would allow college players to have agents, lawyers and receive endorsement money without losing their scholarships. Soon not only will professional athletes be overpaid, but so too will collegiate athletes. As a fan I’m against it. As a capitalist, I cannot oppose it.

My alma mater is charging current students a hefty surcharge to help build a new sports complex - one that will not be of use to any of them before they graduate. The highest paid person on the university payroll is the basketball coach. A couple of years ago, the university got into financial difficulties due to fines for criminal behaviour. Many things including tenured professors, courses, even entire programs were put on the chopping block but the sports programs were left intact. The persons involved in the improprieties are still there. I believe our schools should educate, not provide sports entertainment.

It will seem so when the pro teams revenue gets so low that they can't afford to pay them. I gave up on pro sports not because the games are bad but the political dogma that is now excessively being shoved down our throats. The taking a knee shit was the death knell.

I agree. Plus the costs get past on to the fans. It is expensive now for a family to go to a sports event.

I think they get paid what their job is worth. That being said I think they are about to have a shock when the ratings start to affect the NFL/MLB/sportsball bottom line. People watch sports to forget their everyday bullshit and have camaraderie and fun. They dont watch to be scolded/preached at for something that may or may not be their fault.

Some of the most important people are paid the least....farmers, soldiers.....

    Entertainers are paid the most.

Don't like it? Don't buy movie or sports tickets and donate the $$ to veterans or other worthy groups in need.

Things have been kinda backward ever since athletes, actors and musicians became our "heroes" and soldiers, cops and other real heroes became either passe' or the enemy

We live on a rock overpopulated by spoiled, drooling infants. This makes it rather unpleasant and often dangerous to the rest of us.

Yes absolutely pro athletes are overpaid by orders of magnitude.

I find it to be absolutely wrong that virtually any pro athlete playing in major leagues makes more, often many times more, money than the salary of the President, regardless of who is President.

In particular I find it disgusting when some football player who's pulling down 11 MILLION dollars a year compares his job to slavery. I just want to start punching people in the face when I hear that kind of outright nonsense.

Personally, who gives a shit?! How many people can come up with medical cures, how many can design stuff that helps us live...thats what counts!

I offered a perspective with regards to the salaries of pro athletes as the OP intended.
    I get it...you're not a sports fan.
