Approximately how many purple JMPs were there?

Hello! My wife recently started to learn guitar. She got herself a nice American Strat, and she said "I need an amp" - and when we started talking about them, I - of course - steered her to a Marshall so I can love it too. She did some looking and discovered the Purple JMPs. She's a girl......purple.....whatever. She wants to look at getting one but I don't know what I should expect to pay for one? A friend of mine has one that he might be willing to sell (2204), so at least I could get some sort of a ballpark here! Is there any history behind the 'purple'? Does anyone know about how many they made? I used to own a Fawn colored JMP, so I was kind of shocked to learn about more colors!

I'd make sure it was factory purple, and I'm not sure if it's worth more if it is.
Some sleezebags put purple tolex on their plain old amps and claim they are special.

I honestly fear this answer - but how do you know if its factory purple?

    Not sure.
Can the serial # be traced by Marshall?

Screw price. Get her what she wants! Youll get to play it too. Get the first good one you see and or buy a purple headcase from sourmash. Make it happen.

That is EXACTLY my plan! Hell she can barely play A/G/C/D/E, but I told her she needed something "quality" - and that's what I will deliver. For her own benefit.....not mine! ;)

Why not just get a cab(s) from Sourmash, they’re cheap enough. I got a purple levant head shell and 2x12 cab, and will drop a Marshall-style chassis in it.

I've had Sourmash make me two plexi headshells in purple levant. One arrived today. I've recovered another one in purple myself, along with two 4x12s to match.

Real original 2204s with real original factory applied purple are fairly rare. They command a small premium over regular black, all other factors being equal, but I believe that the color that brings the highest premium is red. Red Marshalls always get stares.

Happy wife happy life. For a JMP 2204 in great shape with no mods Im guessing 1800-2000.00 plus the cab.

I’ve been in the market for a cleanish 2204 for about 6mos—beat up ones are still priced over $2k, cleaner ones $2500. Not sure how flexible buyers are now but I have issues offering less than 90% of asking so I’ve been waiting. IMO no way is a decent condition 2204 worth $2500.

Aftermarket purple head cab will add $350 or so.

Wow that crazy! I guess Im glad I got two mint 2204 JMP MVs a few years back one for 1600.00 and one for 1200.00! My 74 2204 MKII NMV I got 3 years ago for 1700.00, the cab was beat up a bit but the amp was perfect with no mods!

I'd consider this a done deal!

I've got a lead on one that I believe is pretty nice (but modded) for $2k. I am thinking I'll pull the trigger on it.

Damn, I may be tempted to sell my 84’ vg condition jcm 800 2204 vertical input. Sure my wife would be happy.
